Mrs. Shirley Juanita Venable Benedict, age 77 of Summerville, passed away Sunday, June 25, 2017 at her residence.

Mrs. Benedict was born in Cedartown, GA on February 13, 1940, daughter of the late Dewitt Venable and Lessie Lucile Brown Venable.  She was a veteran of the United States Army.  Mrs. Benedict was preceded in death by three sisters, Doris Venable Grant, Barbara Jean Venable Wooten, and Glenda Venable Hardin, and a brother, Harold Venable. 

Mrs. Benedict is survived by her husband of nearly 57 years, Richard William Benedict; daughter and son-in-law, Lisa and Stefan Starkey; sons, Mark Benedict and Richard D. Benedict; sisters and brothers-in-law, Elaine and Bob Pledger and Diane and Robert Croy; grandchildren, Logan William Benedict, Jennifer(Dustin) Wester, Stefanie Maria Starkey, Kyle Burdick and Megan McCutchins; great grandchildren, James William Wester, Jaylie Burdick, Elijah Burdick, Kannon Burdick, and Marlie McCutchins; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, June 28, 2017 at 2:00 P.M. in the Petitt Chapel with Rev. Stanley Smith officiating.  Interment will follow in the Perennial Springs Baptist Church Cemetery.

Mrs. Benedict will be in state at the Coffman Funeral Home where the family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 7 until 9 P.M.
