Ms. Josie Mae Smith Nichols, age 85, of Summerville, GA, died Saturday, July 9, 2022, at her residence.

Ms. Nichols was born February 6, 1937, in Summerville, GA, daughter of the late Luther Andrew and Annie Mae Brown Smith.  She was a member of Chelsea Baptist Church, and prior to her retirement, worked as a Certified Nursing Assistant with Pruitt Health.  She loved her grandkids and her dogs and enjoyed quilting.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Cecil Deward Nichols, Sr.; son, Cecil Deward Nichols, Jr.; 3 sisters; and 2 brothers.

Survivors include her son, David Wayne (Kimberly) Nichols; daughter, Teresa Lynn (Mark) Primak; brother, Ernest Paul (Jo) Smith; sisters, Mary Nell Wright, Alice Faye Smith, Annie Lee (Frank) Shaffer; 3 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; and several great-great-grandchildren.

Memorial services will be held at 1:00 P.M. Thursday, July 21, 2022, from the Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Freddie Bell officiating.

There will be a gathering of family and friends at Mason Funeral Home from 12:30 P.M. until the hour of service on Thursday.

In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests donations be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital
