Nine nonprofit organizations serving Chattooga County are receiving nearly $5,000 through North Georgia EMC’s Operation Round Up program.

The North Georgia Electric Membership Foundation awarded $4,990 to organizations serving Chattooga County as part of its Fall 2026 Operation Round Up grant cycle.

The grants are funded by North Georgia EMC members who voluntarily allow their monthly electric bills to be rounded up to the next whole dollar. The additional change is placed into the foundation and distributed to nonprofit organizations serving communities throughout Northwest Georgia.

Organizations receiving funding for services in Chattooga County include:

  • Boys & Girls Clubs of North Georgia — $1,000
  • Chattanooga Area Food Bank — $1,000
  • Children’s Advocacy Center LMJC — $625
  • Families 4 Families — $1,000
  • Friends of Disabled Adults and Children Too — $500
  • Georgia Transplant Foundation — $250
  • Reach Out and Read Georgia — $115
  • Shepherd’s Light Foundation — $300
  • Special Olympics Georgia — $200

The grants total $4,990 for organizations serving Chattooga County.

The Chattooga County awards are part of a much larger round of community grants throughout North Georgia EMC’s service territory.

For Fall 2026, the North Georgia Electric Membership Foundation awarded $135,512 to 36 nonprofit organizations serving residents in Chattooga, Catoosa, Floyd, Gordon, Murray, Walker and Whitfield counties.

A significant portion of the money is going toward organizations working to address food insecurity.

According to North Georgia EMC, $62,647 of the $135,512 awarded this fall went to agencies providing hunger relief.

The foundation also provided $104,500 to area schools in August for STEM education and related projects.

Operation Round Up is designed to allow individual North Georgia EMC members to make small monthly contributions that collectively provide substantial funding for community organizations.

For example, if a participating customer’s electric bill totals $83.87, the bill is rounded to $84, with the additional 13 cents going to Operation Round Up.

The amount contributed by an individual member can never exceed 99 cents during a single month, and North Georgia EMC says the average contribution is approximately $6 per year.

While each individual contribution is small, combining the contributions of participating members generates funding that can be distributed to nonprofit organizations throughout Northwest Georgia.

North Georgia EMC says 100 percent of the money collected through Operation Round Up goes to local nonprofit agencies serving residents within the cooperative’s seven-county service area.

The cooperative serves approximately 108,000 members across portions of Northwest Georgia and maintains offices in Trion, Calhoun, Dalton and Fort Oglethorpe.

North Georgia EMC’s Trion office serves customers in Chattooga County and is located on Highway 27.

Operation Round Up funding supports organizations involved in areas including hunger relief, assistance for children and families, services for people with disabilities, literacy, healthcare assistance and other community programs.

The Fall 2026 grants continue a program that has distributed more than $2.5 million to schools, nonprofit organizations and emergency relief efforts across Northwest Georgia since Operation Round Up began.

NGEMC members interested in participating can elect to have their monthly electric bill rounded to the next dollar, with the difference contributed to the program.
