Northwest Georgia’s unemployment rate remained at 3.4% in June, although it increased four-tenths of a percentage point from May due to normal seasonal workforce changes, according to the Georgia Department of Labor.

The region’s labor force reached a new all-time high of 460,744 workers, an increase of 882 from the previous month and 7,391 compared to June 2025. Employment totaled 445,054, down 994 over the month but up 7,254 over the past year.

Initial unemployment claims rose to 1,808 in June, an increase of 619 from May but down 57 compared to one year ago.

Georgia Labor Commissioner Bárbara Rivera Holmes said the month reflects the temporary seasonal changes that typically occur when schools let out for the summer.

“June brings the temporary seasonal changes we see every year as schools let out for the summer, but as Georgia’s workforce continues to grow, our year-over-year trends remain stable,” Holmes said. “Short-term fluctuations are normal in a resilient economy, and the bigger picture is clear: Georgia remains a state where opportunity is within reach, hard work is rewarded, and every Georgian has the chance to build a better life.”
