The Trion Lady Bulldogs are state champions!

Trion High School captured the 2026 Georgia High School Association Class A State Softball Championship Saturday afternoon, defeating Wheeler County 6-2 at the South Commons Softball Complex in Columbus.

The victory capped an outstanding postseason run for the Lady Bulldogs, who battled their way through some of the toughest competition in Class A softball to bring the state championship trophy home to Trion.

Under head coach Trent Stamey, the Lady Bulldogs entered the state tournament playing some of their best softball of the season.

Trion opened Elite Eight competition Wednesday with a 2-0 shutout victory over Irwin County, extending its winning streak to 11 games.

The Lady Bulldogs followed that performance with a 1-0 victory over Emanuel County Institute on Thursday, advancing to Friday’s showdown with Wheeler County.

That game turned into one of the most dramatic contests of the tournament. Trion and Wheeler County battled through 12 innings before the Lady Bulldogs emerged with a 6-3 victory, securing their place in Saturday’s championship game.

Freshman pitcher Hartley Staton delivered an extraordinary performance in Friday’s contest, recording 25 strikeouts while throwing 204 pitches over 12 innings.

Wheeler County fought its way back through the elimination bracket, setting up a rematch with Trion for the state championship Saturday afternoon.

This time, the Lady Bulldogs took care of business with a 6-2 victory, claiming the Class A state title and completing their championship run with 15 consecutive victories.

The championship is a tremendous achievement for the players, coaches and supporters of Trion High School, as well as the entire Trion community.

After a remarkable season and an unforgettable week in Columbus, the Trion Lady Bulldogs are bringing a state championship trophy back to Chattooga County.
