Trion Lady Bulldogs Make History With First-Ever State Soccer Championship

History was made in Thomaston, Georgia on Friday night as the Trion Lady Bulldogs captured the first state championship in program history with a thrilling 2-1 victory over Irwin County in the GHSA Class A Division II state title match.

Playing at Upson-Lee High School, the Lady Bulldogs rose to the occasion in a hard-fought championship battle worthy of a state final.

Allison Hudgins proved to be the hero for Trion, scoring both goals in the championship victory and helping secure the historic win for the Lady Bulldogs.

The state title marks not only the first girls’ soccer championship in Trion High School history, but also the first girls’ soccer state championship ever won by a Northwest Georgia program.

The historic victory caps off a memorable season for the Lady Bulldogs and forever cements their place in Trion athletics history.

Trion Girls Soccer To Play For State Championship Friday

The Trion Girls Soccer team will take on Irwin County in the state championship on Friday, May 15, at 4:00 PM.

The championship match will be played at Upson-Lee High School. Tickets are $18 and must be purchased through GoFan.

The Trion Football team will also be in action this weekend, scrimmaging North Murray on Saturday, May 16, at 6:00 PM. Admission for the football scrimmage is $10.

Trion Lady Bulldogs Advance To First-Ever State Championship Match

The Trion High School girls soccer team is headed to the biggest match in program history after punching its ticket to the 2026 GHSA Class A Division II State Championship with a dominant 3-0 semifinal victory over Portal on May 8.

The Lady Bulldogs controlled the match from start to finish as Baylee Blair, Allie Hudgins, and Dallas Payne each found the back of the net. Blair and Hudgins scored on penalty kicks while Payne added another goal to seal the historic win.

With the victory, Trion advances to the state championship game for the first time ever, continuing an incredible postseason run for the Area 7 champions.

The Lady Bulldogs will now face Irwin County for the state title on Friday, May 15, 2026. Kickoff is scheduled for 4:00 PM at Upson-Lee High School in Thomaston.

Trion’s championship appearance marks another major milestone for the school’s athletic program and gives Northwest Georgia soccer fans plenty to celebrate as the Lady Bulldogs prepare to compete for a state crown.

Trion Golf Team Competes In Area Tournament Today

The Trion High School golf team traveled to Greensboro, Georgia over the weekend to compete in the GHSA Area Tournament today.

The Bulldogs enter postseason play with several golfers putting together steady performances this season. Clayton Loughridge leads the team with 414 total strokes and a 59.1 stroke average, followed by Danalee Lively with 428 total strokes and a 61.1 average.

Lincoln Hefner and Mollie Corbin are tied at 440 total strokes, both averaging 62.9. Kendal Loughridge follows closely with 441 total strokes and a 63 average. Isaac Helwig enters with 469 total strokes and a 67 average, while Blake Bramlett has 477 total strokes and a 68.14 average.

Those numbers were recorded prior to Trion’s match against Pepperell last Friday at Trion Golf Course.

Today’s Area Tournament will determine which teams and individuals advance in postseason competition, as Trion looks to make a strong showing in Greensboro.

Chattooga High School Basketball Heads to State Tournament

Chattooga High School basketball is headed to the state tournament with both the boys and girls teams set to play on the road this week, and both matchups will require significant travel.

The Chattooga boys will play Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. at Rabun County High School, while the Chattooga girls will face Putnam County High School on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. The teams will be traveling more than 150 miles for a nearly three-hour trip as they represent Chattooga County on the state stage.
