A Floyd County man has been sentenced to more than three years in federal prison after authorities say he threatened to kill President Donald Trump through a social media livestream.
Jauan Rashun Porter, 29, of Rome, was sentenced last week by U.S. District Judge William M. Ray II to three years and five months in federal prison, followed by three years of supervised release. Porter pleaded guilty on October 7 to one count of transmitting interstate threats.
According to court records, the threat was made on June 26, 2025, during a TikTok livestream related to President Trump and an immigration detention center in the Florida Everglades. Investigators said Porter stated there was “only one way to make America great” and threatened to put “a bullet in between Trump’s eyes.” He also allegedly threatened to kill federal agents if they came to his residence.
U.S. Attorney Theodore S. Hertzberg said the threats required an immediate and coordinated response, emphasizing that threats against public officials and law enforcement are taken seriously and will not be tolerated.
A search of Porter’s apartment uncovered Tannerite, an explosive material, along with two pipes and pistol ammunition. Authorities also noted Porter has an extensive criminal history, including prior convictions for terroristic threats, influencing a witness, mutiny in a penal institution, drug possession, battery, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and domestic violence.
The case was investigated by the U.S. Secret Service, with assistance from the Floyd County Police Department, Floyd County District Attorney’s Office, and the Troup County Sheriff’s Office.
