Northwest Georgia is starting December on a very wet note, as waves of rainfall move across the region today through Tuesday afternoon. Chattooga County and surrounding areas can expect steady, soaking rain with some heavier pockets possible at times. While no severe weather is anticipated, this prolonged rainfall will be beneficial for our drought conditions — though it won’t be enough to completely break the drought.
Temperatures across Northwest Georgia will stay cool, with highs in the low to mid-50s today and similar conditions on Tuesday. A wedge of cool, stable air continues to hold over the area, keeping thunderstorm chances low but moisture levels high.
By Tuesday afternoon, the system will finally begin to move out as high pressure builds in from the west. Skies should gradually clear into midweek, but the break won’t last long.
Another round of rain is possible on Friday into Saturday. Early indications show this will mainly be a cold rain for Northwest Georgia. However, higher elevations along the Tennessee line may see just enough cold air for a small chance of wintry weather — something forecasters will be watching closely.
For now, keep the umbrella handy, expect wet roads, and enjoy the much-needed rainfall across Chattooga County and the region.
