Democratic congressional candidate Shawn Harris will make a campaign stop in Chattooga County next week, hosting a town hall meeting in Summerville.

The event is scheduled for Thursday, September 24, at the Chattooga County Civic Center. Doors will open at 5:30 PM, with the town hall beginning at 6 PM.

According to the event announcement, Harris is inviting voters regardless of political affiliation to attend, hear from the candidate and ask questions about issues affecting Georgia’s 14th Congressional District.

Harris is seeking the Democratic nomination for Georgia’s 14th Congressional District in the November election. He previously faced Republican Clay Fuller in the April special-election runoff for the congressional seat. Fuller won that election and currently represents the district.

Harris and Fuller also participated in an Atlanta Press Club debate in March during the special-election campaign.

The Harris campaign currently says Fuller has not accepted its invitation for another debate ahead of the November election.

Harris is a retired U.S. Army brigadier general who served approximately 40 years in the military and now operates a cattle farm with his family in Rockmart. His military career included service in Afghanistan and other overseas assignments.

Organizers say a food-drive drop-off will also be available during the September 24 town hall.
