Georgia House Speaker Jon Burns (R-Newington) has unveiled the Georgia House of Representatives’ policy agenda for the 2026 Legislative Session, saying the chamber will focus on affordability and quality of life for families across the state while continuing work tied to recent tax cuts, insurance-cost efforts, education initiatives and healthcare investments.

Burns said the House is prioritizing issues Georgians have identified as most important, with a renewed focus on keeping more money in the pockets of working families. He pointed to rising costs in key areas like property taxes, housing, healthcare and education and said the House plans to pursue “commonsense solutions” aimed at easing financial pressure and strengthening communities statewide.

Among the priorities outlined, the House plans to advance a proposal aimed at enabling the elimination of the homestead property tax statewide, with the goal of preventing homeowners from being priced out of their homes by rising property valuations. House leaders also say they intend to address housing affordability by cutting through government red tape and reducing regulatory barriers that can drive up the cost of building and buying homes.

On healthcare, the agenda emphasizes expanding access to quality, affordable care by increasing medical education opportunities and growing Georgia’s healthcare workforce. In education, the House plans to continue its literacy push with a proposal to place a literacy coach in every elementary school while increasing resources for birth-to-five learning.
