Herman E. Spivey, Jr., age 78, died on Monday, June 9, 2008 after a courageous battle with pneumonia and cancer. He was the son of Havens Taylor Spivey and the late Herman E. Spivey, Sr.

Dr. Spivey is survived by his wife Suzan Nisbet Spivey, daughter Eva Kathryn Bridges, grandson Patrick Taylor Bridges(Rocky Face, GA) son and daughter-in-law Heman E. (Peck) Spivey III and Deborah Ann Spivey; granddaughters Sarah Elizabeth Spivey and Kaylee Marie Spivey(San Antonio, TX.). He is survived by his mother, Haven Taylor Spivey(Summerville, GA). Sister, Margaret Catherine Spivey(Kissinnee, FL) and brother Mark Allen Spivey (Norfolk, VA). He was preceded in death by his brother Dr. H. Olin Spivey of Stillwater OK. Serveral nieces and nephews also survive.

Dr. Spivey practiced medicine in Chattooga Co. for 47 years. He recieved degrees from the Universities of Kentucky, Wisconsin, and Louisville.

He wa a member of the American Academy of Family Physicians and American Medical Association. Dr. Spivey was an active Elder of the Summerville Presbyterian Church, and a Korean Conflict veteran.

A Memorial Celebration of the life of Dr. Herman E. Spivey, Jr. will be conducted by Rev. Paul Bayerl and 10 a.m. at the Summerville Presbyterian Church on Saturday, June 14, 2008. Visitation in the Fellowship Hall will follow.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Herman Spivey Medical Scholarship Fund, the Summerville Presbyterian Church, the American Cancer Society or your favorite chartiy.
