State Senator Colton Moore, who represents Chattooga, Walker, Dade, Catoosa, and a portion of Floyd County in the Georgia General Assembly, says he is showing “strong interest” in running for the now-open U.S. House seat in Georgia’s 14th Congressional District.

The announcement comes after U.S. Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene released a video message Friday stating that she will step down from Congress in January 2026, leaving the district’s seat vacant and setting up what is expected to be a competitive special election.

Senator Moore posted on social media that he is “seriously considering stepping up to fight alongside President Donald J. Trump,” saying he wants to help advance what he described as the “America First” agenda.

Moore made national headlines earlier this year after he was arrested at the State Capitol during the State of the State address. He was charged with willful obstruction of law enforcement and was temporarily banned from the House floor following a separate incident in which he verbally confronted the late House Speaker David Ralston. The ban was later lifted.

Former President Donald Trump, who recently criticized Greene and referred to her as a “traitor,” has publicly praised Moore in the past, calling him a “highly respected Georgia state senator” in a 2024 campaign video. Moore reposted the video Friday with the caption, “Should I run?”

In his online statements, Moore says he believes Northwest Georgia needs “a fighter who won’t bow to the swamp,” adding that he wants to be a strong conservative voice in Congress for residents across the region. He also said he wants to support Trump’s priorities, strengthen the economy, and “make sure Georgia’s voice roars in Washington.”

If Moore enters the race, he will join what is expected to be a crowded field seeking to represent Georgia’s 14th District, which includes much of Northwest Georgia and the counties he currently serves in the State Senate.

WZQZ will provide updates as candidates formally declare their intentions in the coming weeks.
