Post seat holders serve as the formal governing body of the county party. They are responsible for voting on key committee business, including bylaws changes, budgets, and expenditures. Those elected to these positions serve four-year terms and are expected to be active volunteers within the party.

In addition to selecting a post seat holder, the party will also elect two delegates and one alternate to represent Chattooga County at the 2026 Democratic Party of Georgia State Convention. The convention is scheduled to take place August 1 in Savannah.

Party officials say the elections are open to the public. Anyone interested in becoming a post seat holder, convention delegate, or alternate is encouraged to reach out to the Chattooga County Democratic Party by email at Chattooga.democrats@gmail.com.

Georgia Lawmakers Consider New Voting Maps After Supreme Court Ruling

Georgia lawmakers are weighing the possibility of drawing new voting district maps following a recent U.S. Supreme Court ruling that could reshape how election lines are created.

The ruling weakens a key provision of the Voting Rights Act, making it more difficult to challenge political maps unless intentional discrimination can be proven.

In response, some Republican leaders in Georgia are calling for the state to revisit and potentially redraw its congressional and legislative districts.

The issue comes as Georgia has already faced legal challenges over its district maps in recent years, including court-ordered changes ahead of upcoming elections.

Democratic leaders and voting rights advocates have raised concerns that the ruling could impact minority representation, while supporters say it could lead to what they describe as constitutionally drawn districts.

No final decision has been made, but the debate could have significant implications for future elections across Georgia.

Georgia State Senator Resigns To Focus On Lieutenant Governor Campaign

Parkes now joins state Sen. Josh McLaurin of Sandy Springs and Richard Wright in the Democratic field for lieutenant governor. In her resignation letter to Gov. Brian Kemp, Parkes sharply criticized the Georgia Legislature, calling it “a place where good ideas go to die and where extremists continue to attack our freedoms.” Georgia’s primary election is scheduled for May 19.
