A Summerville woman was arrested late Saturday night after a traffic stop on Highway 27 led deputies to determine she was driving under the influence, according to a Chattooga County Sheriff’s Office incident report.
Around 10:09 p.m. on December 6, a deputy was running stationary patrol with department-issued RADAR near the intersection of Scenic Hill Road when a vehicle was observed traveling southbound at a high rate of speed. The RADAR unit showed the car—identified as a gray Nissan Murano—traveling at 85 mph in a 55 mph zone.
The deputy initiated a traffic stop and made contact with the driver, identified as 38-year-old Jennifer Leann Brown. The report states that Brown appeared to be chewing on something and gave inconsistent answers about whether she had consumed alcohol. Additional deputies arrived to assist after Brown displayed signs of impairment.
According to the report, Brown refused to complete field sobriety tests properly and showed multiple indicators of impairment during the portions she attempted. Deputies then obtained consent for a preliminary breath test, which showed positive for alcohol. Brown was placed under arrest for DUI and speeding.
At the jail, Brown initially hesitated but ultimately consented to state-administered chemical testing. Her vehicle was impounded, and deputies noted that a family member later retrieved a child who had been inside the vehicle at the time of the stop. Brown was also issued an administrative license suspension notice. The incident was recorded on body-worn camera.
