Trion travels to Lafayette tonight in Week 2 of the 2022 high school football season.
The Bulldogs rebounded from a disappointing scrimmage two weeks ago against Cherokee County, AL with a dominant 45-19 win last week against the archrival in the Gordon Lee Trojans. Logan Eller led the way last week with 189 yards rushing on 18 attempts and scored 5 TD’s along the way. Junior running back Toby Maddux also eclipsed the century mark with 129 yards rushing on and 58 yards receiving from sophomore QB Kade Smith who had 98 yards passing.
The competition will get a little tougher tonight as the Bulldogs travel to Lafayette to take on the 1-0 Lafayette Ramblers. The Ramblers had a big night last week in Summerville against the Chattooga Indians in a 42-13 season opening win. The Ramblers had a 5 TD man of their own last week in Khalas Finley. Finley had an amazing night with 257 yards rushing on 19 carries. Overall, the Ramblers racked up 377 rushing yards last week against the Indians while only collecting one single yard through the air.
This will be the 64th overall meeting in the series between Trion and Lafayette. The Ramblers have played Trion more than any other team in their program’s history. Trion leads the series 40-23-0. The Bulldogs currently have a six game winning streak in the series and have won 14 of the last 16 games in this series dating back to 1998. The last time Lafayette defeated Trion was in 2011. This will be the first time the two teams have played in 5 years with the last game coming back in 2017 when Trion won 41-21 in Trion.
