Motorists traveling through Summerville today should be aware of a temporary road closure as city crews work to replace a sewer line.

West Washington Street will be closed to through traffic between Sunset Drive and Raymond Street today, Monday, October 19, from 8:30 AM until 4 PM.

Summerville City Manager Jason Winters told WZQZ News on Friday that the city would be replacing a sewer line in the area.

The City of Summerville subsequently issued a notice advising motorists of the scheduled closure.

Drivers who normally travel through that section of West Washington Street are encouraged to plan alternate routes and allow additional travel time, particularly during the morning and afternoon hours.

The sewer line replacement is part of the city’s ongoing efforts to maintain its municipal utility infrastructure.

Motorists are reminded to watch for city employees and equipment working along the roadway and to use caution when traveling near the construction area.

The closure is scheduled to end at 4 PM today.
