Mr. William Overton Tyson, age 79 of Summerville, passed away Sunday, February 28, 2010 at his residence.
Mr. Tyson was born in Lindale, Georgia on November 12, 1930, son of the late John Forrest Tyson and Hilda Hartman Tyson. He was a member of the American Legion Post 129 and the VFW # 6688. Mr. Tyson was a veteran of the Korean Conflict having served in the United States Army, and prior to his retirement, was the Magistrate Judge for Chattooga County.
Mr. Tyson is survived by his wife, Betty Norton Tyson; daughters and sons-in-law, Kathy and Steve Day, Ellen and Rick Bagley and Susan and Tommy Gilbert; sister, Virginia Elkins; grandchildren, John Gilbert, Hollie Shehan, Kyle Day, Casey Day, Adam Bagley and Ben Bagley; 1 Great grandson, Greyson Day.
Funeral Services for Mr. Tyson will be held Tuesday, March 2, 2010 at 2:00 P.M. in the Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Kevin J. Norton officiating. Private Interment will follow in the Summerville Cemetery with the Shanklin-Attaway Post 5 of the American Legion in charge of military graveside honors.
Pallbearers will be John Gilbert, Kyle Day, Casey Day, Adam Bagley, Ben Bagley, Kelly Norton and John Raines. Honorary Pallbearers will be members of the American Legion and the VFW.
Mr. Tyson will be in state at the Mason Funeral Home where the family will receive friends Tuesday from 12:00 Noon until the funeral hour.
