Trion Fall Festival Meeting Set for Monday

A meeting concerning the Trion Fall Festival is set for next Monday August 25th at the conference room at Trion Town Hall.  A decision will be made at the meeting regarding having a Fall Festiva on November 8th.  Organizers are urging any Trion resident, regardless of age to attend the meeting.

 

GSP Reports No Accidents with Injuries

The Georgia State Patrol post in Rome reported no accidents with injuries within the past week in Chattooga County.  AM 1180 Chattooga County radio receives reports from the Georgia State Patrol Post in Rome on a weekly basis regarding accidents with injuries in Chattooga County.

 

Parent Leadership Coalition Kickoff

The Chattooga County Parent Leadership Coalition is holding a community membership kick off this Saturday at 10 AM at the Summerville Elemetary School.  State wide director of the PLC, Marchia Williams will speak concerning the Navigation Team Project and how the PLC is working to establish a point of contact in every Georgia county so that no parent of a child with a disability ever feels alone.  Area resource providers will be present with information and some will also give items away.  Refreshments will be servied for more informaiton call Melissa Cummings at 706-857-3527

 

Water Service Restored in Trion

Trion Water Department customers were without water for some time yesterday while Water Department workers installed new water lines.  All residents of the Trion Water Department that experienced a water outage yesterday were encouraged to boil their water before drinking.

Waymon Blansit of the Trion Water Department said that those who experienced an outage in water service should boil their water for a period of 24 hours after water service was restored.

There are currently 55 inmates housed at the Chattooga County Jail, with 31 Housed at Floyd County Jail, 1 Housed at the Rome Youth Detention Center and 4 housed at the Dade County Jail for a total of 91 inmates in custody.

2006 Election Fraud Case Investigation Coming to a Close

The Summerville News is reporting this morning that the investigation into the Election Fraud Case from the 2006 election is coming to a close.  According to the report subpoenas have been sent out to some Chattooga County residents to testify at a September 5th meeting of the Chattooga County Grand Jury regarding the case.  The investigation by the Georgia Secretary of State’s office is a result of a complaint by the Chattooga County Republican Pary during the 2006 election concerning a non-partisan race for State Court Judge which saw the defeat of Sam Finister and the election of Carlton Vines.

Watson Web Site Trial Date Set – Updated

Attorneys for Ed and Brenda Hammitt along with Rome web site owner Teresa Watson have agreed on a tentative date for the law suite being brought by the Hammit’s against Watson to be heard in a Chattooga County Court.  Judge Ralph Hill extended the time before the trial at the request of the Hammitt’s attorney Bobby Lee Cook who cited that fact that Watson had switched attorney’s in the case.  The pre trial hearings in the case will begin in December of this year and a jury trial should be underway by February of next year.   Ms. Watson’s attorney is Vince Anderson of Dalton and a co-defendent in the case, Kennith Busbin is being represented by local Chattooga County attorney Ben Ballenger.

The Hammitt’s are suing Watson for comments that she made on her web site accusing them of breaking the law.  The Hammitt’s have never been arrested or charged with any of the crimes mentioned on the Watson Web Site.
