Another Arrest in Bomb Threat

The Chattooga County Sheriff’s Department has reported the arrest of another Chattooga County teenager charged in connection with a bomb threat at the Chattooga County Court House last week.  According to reports from the Sheriff’s department 17 year old Kayla Leeann Johnson of a Raines Circle Address in Summerville was arrested for giving false statements to law enforcement officers regarding the bomb threat.  Johnson was released on a $3,000 Bond.

Meanwhile Carrie Michelle Weeks, age 18 of Raines Circle in Summerville remains in the Chattooga County Jail after she was  arrested Friday afternoon by investigator Eddie Strop of the Chattooga County Sheriff’s office.  Ms. Weeks was charged with transmitting a false bomb threat, terroristic threats and acts and use of a communication facility to commit a crime, all felonies.  Bond was set for Weeks at $300,000 cash.

Johnson Obit

Mrs. Lorene Elizabeth Johnson, age 58 of Summerville, Georgia passed away Tuesday morning in the local nursing home.  She was born in Titusville, Florida on September 20, 1949 daughter of the late Walter Harvey and Edith Jones Burgess.  Mrs. Johnson was a Baptist by faith and a homemaker.

Surviving are husband, Larry Jonson, 2 sons – Jackie Parker of Summerville and Leslie Parker of Gaylesville, AL.  Four Grandchildren and two step-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Saturday at 112 AM from the graveside at the Johnson Cemetery with Rev. John Mann officiating, visitation will be Saturday from 9:30 am until 10:30 am at the Earle Rainwater Funeral Home.

A.C. Carter School Reunion Scheduled

The A.C. Trion Changes City Workers Hours

The Town of Trion has announced that they are changing the hours of operation for the sanitation, public works and gas departments.

The changes are being made due to the summer time heat and high temperatures.  Workers hours have been changed to 6 a.m. until 2 p.m. Monday through Friday.  If you have any questions you can call Trion Town Hall at 706-734-2332 between the hours of 8 a.m. and 5 p.m.

Burglary at NW Tech

A teacher told police that someone broke into a Northwestern Technical College classroom and stole more than $1,000 worth of items.

Sometime between Aug. 6 and Aug. 11, someone stole the items from a classroom at a Northwestern Technical College site on Carden Avenue in Rossville. The stolen items included, among other things, a computer and printer. The items were valued at nearly $1,400. Also, a padlock had been cut from a teacher’s desk.

Tractor Fatality Statistics

Farming is one of the most dangerous occupations in the United States according to government statistics and most of the fatalities in farming operations occur in conjunction with the operation of farm tractors.  Overturns have the highest fatality rate for unintentional tractor injures occurring on the farm,according to reports from 29 states covering more than 66 percent of the tractors in U.S. overturns accounted for 55 percent of all on-the-farm tractor fatalities reported, with an annual rate of 4.1 deaths per 100,000 tractors.

Man Killed on Tractor

Rome Area news agencies are reporting that an  unidentified man was killed early Tuesday Evening in a tractor accident off GA State Route 100 in Coosa.

The accident happened near the Sod Farm on Hwy. 100 around 6:00 PM. Firefighters, Floyd Co. Police, and Floyd EMS responded to find the man was not revivable.

According to reports the man was killed Tuesday evening after he fell out of a tractor bucket scoop and was run over in western Floyd County, authorities said.

The tractor reportedly ran over the victim on a farm in the 800 block of Fosters Mill Road.

Deputy Coroner Gene Proctor said the victim died of multiple traumas.

“It was an accidental death,” Proctor said. “Apparently he was riding in the bucket scoop of the tractor when it hit a bump and he bounced out. The tractor was unable to stop, and it ran over him. He was killed instantly.”

First responders were dispatched to the area shortly before 6 p.m. Proctor officially declared the fatality at 6:45 p.m.

The identity of the man was not released pending notification of family members.

Water Off in Trion

The Town of Trion has scheduled water service to be off temporarily today beggininng at 7 AM as town water officials tie into a new water main.  It is not clear how long service will be interrupted.  All areas except those on 9th, 10th and 11th Streets along with Club Drive will be affected.
