Septic Truck Crashes into Centre Elementary School

Just before 6:30 PM yesterday, Cherokee Co. 911 received a call reporting a septic truck had ran through the building at Centre Elementary School.

Both the vehicle and the building suffered significant damage, but only minor injuries were reported. The exact cause of the accident is still under investigation.

A hazmat cleanup crew was called to the scene, and the Alabama Dept. of Environmental Management was notified.

A Chilly, Windy Sunday, and a Freezing Monday (Maybe) for Chattoogans

Chattooga County can expect temperatures in the mid-30s for their Sunday, and potentially freezing temperatures Sunday night.

According the National Weather Service, “clear skies and a cold airmass will allow temperatures to drop quickly Sunday night into Monday morning.” NOAA says the absolute highest it’s getting today is 50º F around 5 PM, but countians should expect it to hang around the low forties for most of the day. It should also be fairly windy today, with wind speeds flirting with 15 mph around 2 PM.

A Freeze Watch is in effect for late Sunday night through mid-Monday morning for Chattooga county and much of north Georgia. Looking ahead toward Tuesday, forecasts for Halloween night are expecting it to be cool and crisp, but not too cold for toddlers and young children to get out in and show off their costumes. Current forecasts expect ow 60’s around 5 PM, and a steady drop down to high 40’s by 11 PM.

Man Hides Meth in a Coke Can during Traffic Stop

A Trion man was arrested last week at Pay-N-Tote after he hid a baggie of meth in a can of Coca-Cola.

Woman Arrested for Using Wrong License Plate

According to this week’s docket records, 27-year-old Trion woman Amber Jennings was arrested for riving without a valid license last Saturday.

Around 5 AM, a deputy on patrol in Trion plant pulled over the driver of a Mercury Milan when he noticed that the vehicle had only one working headlight and no functional taillights.

When the deputy asked driver Amber Jennings for her license, she informed him that her license was suspended. After running the tag number on the license plate, the deputy was informed that the tag belonged to a Chevy Corvette, and not the Milan that Jennings was driving.

Jennings was arrested on charges of driving without a valid license, and using a license plate to misrepresent vehicle identity. Her bond totaled almost $2000. Fulmer’s towed the vehicle from the scene.

Cloudland Burning Leaf Festival Today

The 4th Annual Burning Leaf Festival will be held today. It is held on the last Saturday of October every year at the Cloudland Community Park. There will be family fun for all ages. The many vendors include arts and crafts, foods and snacks, small businesses and organizations, and direct sales. There will be a live music lineup from a variety of performers. There will also be a variety of games and activity for children, including a costume contest and candy walk.
