The Polar Express is coming to the Chattooga County library! On December 19 at 6 PM, the library will be providing a showing of the 2004 Christmas film The Polar Express.
Children can wear their PJ and bring a small blanket and pillow just like the passengers in the movie. The library will provide cookies and hot cocoa. According to the library, “You never know… someone may even get a bell to take home.”
The Summerville Fire Dept. announced yesterday on their Facebook page that the maximum amount of children have registered for the Santa in Uniform program, where local emergency response professionals take children of needy families on a Christmas shopping trip to Walmart.
In the post, they said that the Santa in Uniform group, which is newly-incorporated to improve organization following an accounting scandal, had their first board meeting on Monday and finalized all details for the rest of the Christmas season.
“Our organization is continuing to grow and hopefully next year we will be stronger than ever. We would like to thank everyone who has donated and helped us get our organization back on its feet.”
The Santa in Uniform, Inc. board is comprised of SFD chief Robbie Lathem, SPD chief Stan Mosely, Cindy Tallent, Earle Rainwater, and Mike Salmon.
MRS. MARY BAILEY, age 91, of Summerville, Georgia passed away Wednesday evening in the local nursing home. Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by Earle Rainwater Funeral Home.

Dowdy Park will come to life this Friday, December 8, 2017, as holiday cheer is offered free to the public from 6-9 PM.
