Over one hundred people received a text from the Chattooga County Tax Commissioner’s Office on Tuesday and some people weren’t sure why.
On Tuesday, the Summerville Police Department released a report about a drug arrest that was made earlier this month.
The Chattooga Young Farmers will have a meeting coming up this Thursday at the Chattooga County Ag Building. Director Lauren Jarrett says that the group had record sales at their booth at the Chattooga County Agricultural Fair this year and Young Farmers will receive a report on the revenue raised at the meeting on Thursday. Stacy Keith Wisener, a repeat sex offender, has been sentenced to three decades in federal prison for sexually abusing an 11-year-old girl and producing child pornography depicting the abuse. Wisener also received a concurrent term of imprisonment for possessing mail he had stolen from the U.S. Postal Service processing facility where he worked.

The Chattooga County Sheriff’s Office received a call about a break-in at the Trion EMS station on Harrell Street on Friday of last week. A deputy arrived on the scene and spoke with a Redmond EMS employee who said when workers came in that morning they found multiple pry marks on the metal door, and the door itself was broken. There was no indication that anything was missing from inside the EMS station.
Five Georgia Northwestern Technical College (GNTC) students from the Whitfield Murray Campus (WMC) in Dalton have received The Gov. Nathan Deal Technical Education Scholarship in recognition of their academic achievement in an industrial program.
Mr. Phillip David Mountain, age 61, of Rome, GA, died Tuesday, August 23, 2022, at his residence.
Mr. Mountain was born June 1, 1961, in Rome, GA, son of the late Clifford and Ava Norton Mountain. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and was employed as an environmental specialist with Gerdau Steel Mill.
Survivors include his son, David (Aspen) Mountain; daughters, Amber Hines and Claire Mountain; sister, Jeannie (Jerry) Wilson; and 3 grandchildren.
A private graveside services will be held at a later date.
