Georgia gas prices continue downward trend at the pump compared to a week ago. Georgia drivers are now paying an average price of $3.77 per gallon for regular unleaded gasoline (subject to change overnight). Monday’s state average is 13 cents less than a week ago, 59 cents less than last month, and 81 cents more than this time last year.
The nineteenth annual Highway 27 Yard Sale will get underway this week, starting on Thursday, August 4th and continuing through Saturday, August 6th. The City of Summerville will be offering yard sale spots in Dowdy Park on August 5th and 6th for the Highway 27 Longest Yard Sale. Yard Sale spots will be offered for the cost of $5 per vendor spot. Chattooga County Commissioner Blake Elsberry is seeking bids to repave several county roads.
At the Town of Trion council meeting last Thursday, council members and Mayor Lanny Thomas discussed unpaid property taxes. Currently, the town has around $23,000 in unpaid property taxes on its books. The town is giving Trion property owners a thirty-day notice to get those taxes paid or face a tax lien on their property. The council also voted to pay for dental and vision insurance for the town employees and approved a $5,000 donation to the Chattooga County Agricultural Fair at last week’s meeting.
The Chattooga County Republican Party will hold their monthly meeting Thursday, August 4th at 6 pm at the Chattooga Senior Center. Special guest speaker will be Keith Cochran of the Georgia Right to Life association and others. The public is invited.
