TVFCU Idea Leap Grant Semifinalists Announced

Tennessee Valley Federal Credit Union (TVFCU) announced on Monday that 10 small business owners have been named semifinalists in the Chattanooga-area Idea Leap Grant, nine in the Northwest Georgia area and seven in the Cleveland-area competition. Entrepreneurs are competing for a total of $75,000 in grants in the Chattanooga area and $50,000 each in the Cleveland and Northwest Georgia areas – including one business in Summerville.

Mrs. Vivian Elizabeth “Cricket” Burrage, age 66 of Trion, Georgia passed away Saturday, February 25, 2023 at her residence.

Mrs. Burrage was born in Lafayette, Georgia on April 9, 1956, daughter of the late James Austin Hall and Letha Elizabeth Black Hall. She was a member of the Ridgeway Baptist Church, the Sons of Anarchy, and was a homemaker. She loved to shop and loved her dogs. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Burrage was preceded in death by a grandson, Dustin Lowe/

Mrs. Burrage is survived by sons, James David Burrage(Melissa Bullard), Joseph Scott Sipsy and Robert Shane Cochran; daughter and son-in-law, Selena Elizabeth and Terry Cagle; honorary daughter, Rhonda Baggett; honorary sister, Darlene Smith; grandchildren, JD Wood, Kerri Wood and Gracie Wood; additional grandchildren and great grandchildren and a number of nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral Services for Mrs. Burrage will be held Sunday, March 5, 2023 at 3:00 P.M. in the Chapel of the Coffman Funeral Home.

Mrs. Burrage will be in state at the Coffman Funeral Home and the family will receive friends Sunday from 1:00 P.M. until the funeral hour.

I-24 Resurfacing In Northwest Georgia

WHAT: Weather permitting, GDOT Maintenance crews will close the right eastbound lane of I-24 Tuesdaybetween mileposts 3 and 4 for resurfacing. Motorists should expect delays.

WHEN: Tuesday, February 28 from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m.
WHERE: One eastbound right lane of I-24 will be closed between mileposts 3 and 4.

Edith Gale Williams Burrage, Obit (C)

Mrs. Edith Gale Williams Burrage, age 69 of Summerville, passed away Monday, February 20, 2023 at a Rome Hospital following a sudden illness.

Mrs. Burrage was born in Trion, Georgia on February 17, 1954, daughter of the late Francis Bailey Williams, Sr. and Annie Mae Ray Williams. She was a member of the Lyerly United Methodist Church and was retired from Mohawk Industries. She was a great cook and baker, loved to quilt and draw, but her favorite activity was spending time with her family. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Burrage was preceded in death by a brother, Francis Bailey Williams, Jr. a great grandson, Charles Larry Burrage, III, and a brother-in-law, Charles Tudor.

Mrs. Burrage is survived by her husband, Larry Burrage; daughter, Frances Green and her companion, Nathan Major; sons and daughters-in-law, Joe and Holly Burrage and Charles, Jr. and Kelly Burrage; sisters and brothers-in-law, Lula and Buddy Blalock, Doris and Danny Deering and Martha Tudor; brothers and sisters-in-law, Dale and Wanda Williams, Charles and Singida Williams and Ray and Donna Williams; grandchildren, Colten Burrage, Gabriel Burrage, Dexter (Candace) Mitchell, Taylor Mitchell(Ben Huggins) and Ashlyn Burrage; great grandchildren, Piper Mitchell and Parker Mitchell and one on the way, Loraleigh Huggins; and a number o f nieces and nephews.

A celebration of Mrs. Burrage’s life will be held Sunday, March 5, 2023 at the Lyerly United Methodist Church from 2:00 P.M. until 4:00 P.M.

Mrs. Timekco Shaunte Shropshire, age 45 of Summerville, Georgia passed away suddenly on Tuesday, February 21, 2023 at a Rome hospital.

Mrs. Shropshire was born in Rome, Georgia on October 15, 1977, daughter of Mrs. Angalee Shropshire Williams. She was a member of the New Spirit and Truth Assembly of Jesus and was employed as a home care giver with Affordable Health Care, and she enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. Mrs. Shropshire was preceded in death by a grandmother, Mattie Lee Shropshire; Aunts, Pamela Evans and Jeraline Smith; and cousins, Nick Shropshire and Kerry Evans.

Mrs. Shropshire is survived by her husband, Alex Knox; sons, Montavius Shropshire and Zavion Shropshire; daughter, Ariana Wooten; and a host of additional family and friends.

Funeral Services for Mrs. Shropshire will be held Saturday, March 4, 2023 at 11:00 A.M. in the New Spirit and Truth Assembly of Jesus with her pastor, V.T. Harden officiating. Interment will follow in the Allgood Cemetery.

Michael Dylan Leming, Obit (M)

Mr. Michael Dylan Leming, age 27, of Trion, GA, passed away Saturday, February 25, 2023.

Mr. Leming was born November 2, 1995, in Fort Oglethorpe, GA, son of Jeffery Lewis and Melissa G. Gazaway Farley. He was employed with Smith Iron Works and enjoyed being a dad and fishing.

Survivors include his son, Kayden Dylan Leming; daughter, Aria Leana-Rose Leming; a baby boy due next month, Waylon Leming; parents, Jeffery and Melissa Farley; brothers, Cameron Gazaway, Harley Chambers; sister, Caitlyn Leming; mothers of his children, Jasmine Carico and Jerrika Hampton.
