Drunk Man Stops Traffic

A seventy-one-year-old man was arrested near the intersection of Klatt Boulevard and Highway 27 last Friday after he was found walking in the road and obstructing traffic.  Deputy Nicole Flood responded to the scene and found Daniel Francis Hendrie in the roadway trying to stop vehicles.  When Deputy Flood approached the subject she could tell he was heavily intoxicated.  Deputy Flood asked him how much he had to drink and he replied “Sweetheart, three or four beers”.  Deputy Flood told him he had to get off the highway because he was endangering himself and others and he replied “Darlin’, I can do what I want”.  Hendrie was transported to the Chattooga County Jail on charges of public drunkenness.  Hendrie refused the booking process and was placed in a holding cell until the next morning. According to Deputy Flood’s report, Hendrie had been seen intoxicated near Walmart earlier in the day and was warned by a deputy not to get in the roadway.
