Black Heritage Day Celebration at Second Baptist Church on Sunday February 25th

There will be a Black Heritage Day Celebration at Second Baptist Church on Sunday February 25th at 3pm.  Dinner will be served at 2pm.  Associate Minister Chris Wells from New Life Of Saint John Baptist Church in Rome will be the guest speaker.  You are welcome to wear your African attires, dashiki, etc.  Pastor Tim Williamson extends a warm welcome to everyone to come worship.  Second Baptist Church is located 65 Church Street in Summerville.

Chattooga Registrar Update On Early Voting In Presidential Preference Primary

At the end of the day on Tuesday, after two days of advance voting, eighty-one people had cast their ballots in person at the Chattooga County Registrars Office in the Presidential Preference Primary.  The office has also also accepted eight absentee by mail ballots out of a total of twenty-six issued. The last day to request an absentee by mail ballot for this election is March 1. Advance Voting weekday hours are 8:30 AM- 5 PM and Saturday hours are 9 AM – 5 PM.  All Advance Voting takes place at the Chattooga County Registrars Office in downtown Summerville. There will be two Saturdays for voting, February 24 and March 2. The last day of Advance Voting is Friday, March 8.

Biscuits Or Cornbread? General Assembly Says Cornbread For Georgia’s “Official Bread”

A bill to name cornbread as the “official bread of Georgia” has cleared the Georgia House of Representatives.  The bill was sponsored by a Northwest Georgia lawmaker who says that in addition to Southern corn bread being a staple for generations of Georgia residents, the down-home bread also pays homage to the Native American Cherokees from our part of the state.

Trion Council Meeting This Thursday

The Town of Trion will have a regular Workshop / Council Meeting in the Town Hall Conference Room, Thursday, February 22, 2024. The Workshop will begin at 6 PM and the Regular Meeting will follow shortly after.  Anyone with questions may contact Trion Mayor Lanny Thomas or the Town Hall Office and they will try to get the information you request.  Both the workshop and council meeting are open to the public and the public is invited to attend.
