Meth Found During Traffic Stop

A Summerville Police officer initiated a traffic stop on the Lyerly Highway near Jim’s Restaurant earlier this month, after a 2017 Kia Spectra swerved into his lane and nearly sideswiped his patrol car.  The driver of the Kia pulled into the parking lot of Jim’s Restaurant.  As the officer was speaking with the female driver, she showed signs of impairment.  The officer asked the woman if she was alright and the woman said she was tired from “being up all day and all night”.  Believing the woman might be under the influence, the officer asked for consent to search and found suspected methamphetamine inside the woman’s pants pocket.  Fifty-two-year-old Penny Dianne Copeland was arrested and charged with possession of methamphetamine and was booked into the Chattooga County Jail.
