LaFayette Man, With Warrants In Chattooga County, Arrested In Armuchee

A LaFayette man is behind bars after allegedly stealing a firearm and cash from a business on Martha Berry Highway. Evan Blaine Adams, 20, was booked into the Floyd County Jail on Sunday, facing multiple charges including felony theft by taking, misdemeanor theft by taking, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. According to Floyd County Jail records, Adams is accused of taking a Taurus G3C handgun, valued at $300, and $100 in cash from a 21-year-old male victim at a location on the 6200 block of Martha Berry Highway. In addition to felony theft by taking and misdemeanor theft by taking, Adams is facing a charge of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. Floyd County Jail records also indicate that Adams has outstanding probation violation warrants in Chattooga County.

Trion Fire Department January 2025 Call Report

The Trion Fire Department released its call report for January 2025, showing 51 total alarms. This included 13 residential and 4 commercial fire alarms. There were also 7 illegal burning incidents, 14 medical assists, 7 motor vehicle accidents, and 5 natural gas leak incidents. SPLOST Meeting At 10 AM At Commissioner’s Office

Voters in Chattooga County will vote in March on whether to renew the one-penny Special Local Option Sales Tax (SPLOST) for another five years. County Commissioner Andy Allen is encouraging residents to support this extension, highlighting its importance in funding local projects. A public meeting is being held at 10 AM this morning at the Commissioner’s Office on Commerce Street in Summerville to inform the community about the SPLOST. Allen noted that agreements have been signed with all four municipalities regarding fund distribution, and the ballot referendum has been approved by the state. Commissioner Allen emphasized that postponing the measure could lead to a loss of revenue. The proposed fund distribution includes 54. 5% with the rest distributed to the county’s four municipalities.

James Timothy “Tim” Hurley, Obit (M)

Mr. James Timothy “Tim” Hurley, age 63, of Lyerly, GA, died Monday, February 10, 2025, at his residence.

Mr. Hurley was born August 2, 1961, in Chattanooga, TN, son of the late James Carlton “J.C.” and Doris Myrl Johnston Hurley. He was Baptist by faith and was employed as a Millwright with Local 1263.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Sheree Cook Hurley.

Survivors include his children, Josh (Emily) Hurley, Leslie Gazaway, Jessica (Kyle) Shepard, and Journey Hurley; step-sons, Shannon Roach, Stacey (Emily) Roach; a brother, Britt Hurley; sister, Teresa (Knocky) Ledwell; 11 grandchildren; and 2 great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be held at 3:30 Thursday, February 13, 2025, at Subligna Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Colby Wyatt, Bryce Gazaway, Tuff Shepard, Kyle Shepard, Blake Gazaway, and Caleb Butler. Honorary pallbearers will be his special friends and the members of Local 1263.

Mr. Hurley will be in state at Mason Funeral Home and the family will receive friends from 1:00 until 3:00 P.M. on Thursday.

Chattooga Indians First Soccer Match Of The Season This Evening

The Chattooga Indians soccer team is set to begin their 2025 season tonight against the Rockmart Yellowjackets, with kickoff scheduled for 7 PM. in Rockmart. Coach Chris Tallent is optimistic about the season, citing the team’s skill, athleticism, and talent. “I expect to see good things happen this season,” said Coach Tallent. “We have the skill, athleticism, and talent to do well. My job will be to create hunger for the wins.” Tallent expressed great hope for the season, noting the team’s blend of returning and new players. The Indians are looking to improve upon last year’s 1-10 record, a goal that has been in the works since November. “We played a tough schedule last year and this season’s schedule will also be challenging, but we have been working since November to be ready,” said Tallent. “I am excited to see where this season takes us.” Rockmart enters the game with a 0-1 record, having suffered a 2-0 loss to Callaway on Friday. Despite a scoreless first half, the Yellowjackets were unable to secure the win. The last time these two teams met in February 2022, Rockmart defeated Chattooga 3-0. The Indians will undoubtedly be looking to turn the tables and start their season with a victory this evening.
