The forecast for tonight calls for mostly cloudy skies and a low around 54 degrees. North winds around 5 mph are expected, with gusts as high as 15 mph. The weekend will bring a higher chance of precipitation. Saturday has a 50 percent chance of showers, mainly after 2 PM, with mostly cloudy skies and a high near 69. Saturday night also holds a 50 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, with a low around 54. Sunday offers a slight chance of showers early, followed by a chance of showers and thunderstorms after 11 AM. The high is expected to be near 71. Sunday night increases the likelihood of showers and thunderstorms, particularly after 2 AM, with a low around 58. The chance of precipitation climbs to 70%. The start of the work week looks wet, with a 90% chance of showers and possible thunderstorms on Monday and an 80% chance of precipitation Monday night. Tuesday also holds a high chance of showers and thunderstorms, with a 90% likelihood during the day and 80% at night.

A Chattooga County man was arrested on drug charges after a routine traffic stop. Roger Dwayne Hullender, 59, was arrested on April 30, 2025, following a traffic stop on Ridgeway Drive near Browns Road, according to authorities.

Walker County Woman Arrested On 22 Counts Of Animal Cruelty Following Code Enforcement Investigation
A routine code enforcement case in Walker County escalated into a serious animal cruelty investigation, leading to the arrest of 58-year-old Renva Sue Gravitt. Gravitt now faces 22 counts of cruelty to animals and 10 counts of failure to maintain responsibility for control of rabies.
A Catoosa County jury found Joshua Aaron Basham, a known gang member, guilty on March 27, 2025, for shooting a man during a road rage incident on October 10, 2021. The trial lasted four days, starting on March 24, 2025. Basham faced charges of Aggravated Assault, Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony, and Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon. The jury did not accept his self-defense argument. The trial was complicated when Basham arrived under the influence of fentanyl and other drugs, resulting in contempt of court. District Attorney Clayton M. Fuller led the prosecution, supported by several team members who played vital roles in preparing for the trial. The shooting happened on Battlefield Parkway, where the victim was found with a gunshot wound near a Taco Bell. Witnesses identified Basham’s green Nissan truck and detailed the events leading to the shooting. Ultimately, Judge Melissa Hise sentenced Basham to 20 years, with 15 years in prison, emphasizing a strong message against violent crime.
Hundreds of Georgia Highlands College graduates will gather on May 15 in Rome to celebrate their college degrees. GHC will hold three events at the Floyd Campus gym, located at 3175 Cedartown Hwy, Rome GA 30161. Ceremonies will occur at 10:30 AM and 6:30 PM, with a Nursing pinning and commencement ceremony at 2:30 PM. Attendance is limited to graduates and four guests per graduate due to limited seating.
