Georgia drivers are seeing familiar numbers at the pump this week, as the state’s average gas price remains unchanged from last week. As of Monday, the average is holding at $2.66 per gallon, though motorists could still see minor day-to-day fluctuations depending on location and timing.
“Georgians are getting a slight break at the pump as prices ease,” said Montrae Waiters, spokeswoman for AAA–The Auto Club Group. “Softer demand and steady oil prices are helping push the state average down, giving drivers a bit more breathing room this week.”
AAA reports Georgia’s average is the same as a week ago, two cents lower than last month, and 29 cents lower than this time last year. For drivers filling up a standard 15-gallon tank, the average total comes to about $39.90.
Nationally, February is opening with a modest increase. The national average price for regular gasoline has inched up to $2.89 per gallon, slightly higher than last week. Demand has dipped in some areas after winter storms kept many drivers off the roads, but this is also the time of year when gas prices often begin to rise as spring approaches. Even with the recent uptick, the national average remains below the $3.13 recorded at this time last year.
In Georgia metro markets, Atlanta is averaging $2.67 per gallon. The most expensive metro areas are Savannah at $2.76, Valdosta at $2.73, and Hinesville–Fort Stewart at $2.72. The least expensive metro areas include Augusta–Aiken at $2.57, Catoosa–Dade–Walker at $2.56, and Rome at $2.54.
Closer to home, local averages show Chattooga County at $2.61, Walker County at $2.58, Floyd County at $2.54, and Gordon County at $2.64. Across the line in Alabama, DeKalb County is averaging $2.58 and Cherokee County is at $2.62.
