Georgia drivers are seeing some relief at the pump as gasoline prices continue to decline, with Northwest Georgia among the least expensive areas of the state.
AAA reported Monday, August 10, that the statewide average for regular gasoline is $3.76 per gallon, down more than 10 cents from $3.86 one week ago.
Despite the weekly decline, Georgia’s average remains about 17 cents higher than a month ago and approximately 85 cents higher than this time last year.
“Drivers are seeing some relief at the pump as earlier declines in crude oil prices filter through the market,” said Montrae Waiters, spokeswoman for AAA – The Auto Club Group. “However, ongoing uncertainty surrounding global oil supplies could shift the trend and put upward pressure on gas prices in the coming weeks.”
At Monday’s statewide average, filling a standard 15-gallon tank with regular gasoline costs approximately $56.40.
Northwest Georgia continues to offer some of the cheapest gasoline in the state. AAA lists the Catoosa-Dade-Walker market at approximately $3.48 per gallon, making it the least expensive metro market in Georgia. The Rome market is averaging approximately $3.68 per gallon.
AAA’s more expensive Georgia metro markets Monday include Atlanta at $3.83, Macon at $3.81 and Gainesville at $3.79.
Among the state’s least expensive markets, Catoosa-Dade-Walker is averaging $3.48, followed by Albany at $3.56 and Augusta-Aiken at $3.58.
Alabama motorists are paying even less. The statewide average in Alabama stood at approximately $3.62 per gallon Monday, down from $3.73 one week ago.
Nationally, the average price for regular gasoline has fallen to approximately $4.01 per gallon. Lower crude oil prices and softer demand are helping bring prices down as the summer travel season winds down and students return to school.
AAA says motorists can save additional money by shopping around for the lowest prices, combining errands and maintaining good driving habits that improve fuel economy.
Gasoline prices can change throughout the day, and AAA updates its averages daily.
