The Model Blue Devils continued their strong start to the 2026 season Friday night, defeating the Chattooga Indians 42-7 at the Little Big Horn.

It was a difficult night for Head Coach Roone Gable and the Indians, who were returning to the field following an open week and hoping to bounce back from a 33-14 season-opening loss to LaFayette.

Instead, Chattooga ran into a Model team that has been impressive through the opening weeks of the season.

The Blue Devils came to the Little Big Horn after opening their season with a 49-13 victory over Walker and following that with a 31-7 win over Trion last week. Friday night’s 42-point performance against Chattooga gave Model its third consecutive victory and marked the second week in a row the Blue Devils held a Chattooga County team to seven points.

Chattooga was able to find the end zone once Friday night, but the Indians could not generate enough offense to keep pace as Model built its advantage.

The Blue Devils’ ability to consistently put points on the board eventually turned the game into a decisive win, with Model leaving Summerville with the 42-7 victory.

Friday’s game was the first meeting between Chattooga and Model since 2021. That last meeting produced a much different result, with the Indians defeating the Blue Devils 49-21 at the Little Big Horn. The series has produced its share of close games and decisive victories for both programs over the years.

For Chattooga, Friday night’s loss drops the Indians to 0-2 on the season, but the focus now shifts quickly to a much more important portion of the schedule.

The Indians begin Region 7-AA play next Friday night, traveling to Floyd County to take on the Coosa Eagles. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 PM.

The region opener gives Chattooga an opportunity to turn the page on the first two games. While the losses to LaFayette and Model count toward the overall record, neither was a region contest. The games that determine Chattooga’s position in the Region 7-AA standings and its opportunity to return to the state playoffs begin next week.

That makes the coming week an important one for Gable and the Indians as they work to correct problems exposed during the first two games and prepare for Coosa.

Chattooga entered this season looking to return to the postseason after narrowly missing the playoffs a year ago. The Indians have several experienced players back from last year’s team, along with younger players being asked to take on larger roles as the season develops.

After next week’s trip to Coosa, Chattooga remains on the road September 18 against Ridgeland before returning to the Little Big Horn September 25 to face Gordon Lee.
