Drivers across Chattooga County and Northwest Georgia are paying considerably more at the pump this week, with regular gasoline now above $4 per gallon throughout much of the area.

The average price in Chattooga County is $4.15 per gallon, up 22 cents from $3.93 last week. Walker County is also averaging $4.15, an increase of 23 cents. Floyd County is averaging $4.05, up 10 cents, while Gordon County has climbed 15 cents to $4.15 per gallon.

Prices are slightly lower across the state line in Northeast Alabama. DeKalb County is averaging $4.02, up 12 cents from last week, while Cherokee County is averaging $3.98, an increase of 10 cents.

Georgia’s statewide average is now $4.09 per gallon, 8 cents higher than last week, 27 cents higher than a month ago and $1.18 higher than this time last year.

At the current Georgia average, filling a standard 15-gallon tank costs approximately $61.35.

The national average has risen even faster, jumping 16 cents in a week to $4.47 per gallon. AAA says elevated crude oil prices, averaging around $100 per barrel, continue to put upward pressure on gasoline prices.

AAA spokeswoman Montrae Waiters said Georgia drivers continue to feel the strain of gasoline prices above $4, which are taking a larger bite out of household budgets. AAA says motorists should expect continued price volatility until market conditions improve.

For comparison, Georgia’s current $4.09 average is now just 40 cents below the state’s all-time record of $4.49, set in June 2022.
