Friends, former 4-H members and community members will have an opportunity today to help celebrate Rebecca Thomas as she retires following 30 years of service with University of Georgia Extension in Chattooga County.

A retirement drop-in honoring Thomas will be held today, Tuesday, September 29, from 1 until 5 PM at the Chattooga County Ag Center, located at 40 Middle School Road in Summerville. Visitors can stop by during the afternoon for refreshments and fellowship and to congratulate Thomas on her retirement.

Thomas has served as Chattooga County Extension Coordinator and Family and Consumer Sciences Agent, with her work over the years reaching across Family and Consumer Sciences, 4-H Youth Development and other Extension programs. UGA records recognizing her 25th year of service noted that she had addressed community needs in all three major Extension program areas.

For many local residents, Thomas is especially familiar through her work with Chattooga County 4-H, where generations of young people have participated in educational programs, leadership development and other activities. Her Family and Consumer Sciences work has also included areas such as food safety and home food preservation, along with educational programs designed to help local families.

UGA Extension works locally to provide research-based education and assistance in agriculture, youth development, family and consumer sciences and other areas. The Chattooga County office serves as a partnership between the University of Georgia, local government and other Extension resources.

Organizers are inviting current and former 4-H members, families, friends and others from the community to attend today’s drop-in and help recognize Thomas for three decades of service to Chattooga County.

Again, the retirement drop-in for Rebecca Thomas is today from 1 until 5 PM at the Chattooga County Ag Center in Summerville.
