A beloved Christmas tradition returns tonight, Tuesday, December 23, as Alpine Community Church in Menlo opens its annual live nativity—an event that draws families from across Chattooga County and even visitors from Alabama and beyond.

For many, the short drive to Alpine feels like stepping back to the first Christmas in Bethlehem. The outdoor scene includes Mary, Joseph, baby Jesus, shepherds, and a variety of live animals. Families can expect to see goats, sheep, and cows, along with one of the biggest crowd-pleasers for kids—the camels.

The church has presented the live nativity for more than 30 years, with members saying the goal has always been to share the true meaning of Christmas: the birth of Jesus Christ. Visitors are also invited inside to view the sanctuary, decorated for the season and highlighted by a towering, lighted Christmas tree that reaches nearly to the ceiling. Alpine Community Church is known as one of the oldest churches still standing in Chattooga County, adding an extra sense of history to the experience.

There is no admission charge, and church members say the nativity is offered as a gift to the community during the Christmas season.

The Alpine Live Nativity runs December 23rd, 24th, and 25th, from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. each night.
