Chattooga County authorities responded to two accidents involving deer in the last several days.
One occurring on Highway 114 near Hamp Brewer Circle, with the other being on Highway 27 near the Walker County line.
In the Highway 114 wreck, the deer caused considerable damage to the passenger side of the driver’s 2002 GMC Sierra – including the front bumper, fender, front door and running board.
In the Highway 27 accident the driver’s vehicle sustained extensive damage to the front and to the passenger side front fender.
In each instance, the driver was able to drive the vehicle home and fortunately, no one was hurt in either crash.

Three Walker County Firefighters broke into a burning mobile home to rescue the elderly resident; two other occupants of the home had managed to escape, but when firefighters found 71 year old Nevely Lewis she was in cardiac arrest.
She was revived with CPR and air-lifted to Erlanger Medical Center for treatment; she was later transferred to an Atlanta area hospital for treatment of serious burns.
The incident took place on Myers Road in Chickamauga.
Fire Chief Randy Camp said the late night blaze is being investigated as a possible case of arson.

The accidental shooting death of a Gaylesville child has become the subject of a lawsuit filed against the manufacturer of the gun in the incident.
Back in February of this year (2015), eleven year old D.J. Simms from Gaylesville was fatally injured, when he was struck by a bullet inside the family home; the initial reports indicated that the boy’s father had been cleaning a gun when the weapon discharged.
The father was placing a magazine in the gun and had bumped his hand against the bottom to seat it, and the gun discharged.
That shot traveled through the father’s hand and struck the eleven year old, killing him; the bullet also hit the mother in the elbow.

Though, the recall will not be effective, and gun owners can’t mail their pistols back, until a judge gives final approval to the settlement which includes a $30 million cap on the $200 cash back payments.
Both parents were taken to the hospital for treatment while the child was pronounced dead at the scene; that lawsuit claims the incident was due to a design flaw, making certain types of Taurus pistols likely to discharge when the pistol is subjected to an impact or dropped; it was also stated the gun is still capable of being fired by a trigger pull – even when the safety appears to be in the “safe” position.
Attorney Todd Wheeles said the suit contends that Taurus knew about the design flaws and in spite of that, continued to market the weapon.
Authorities are investigating the death of a man at the Ashland Park Apartment.
The call came in at around 11:30.
Someone had gone to check on 60-year old James Harold Kelley at his residence at 331 Ashland Park Boulevard after not being able to contact him.
Kelley was pronounced dead about 20 minutes later, according to Deputy Floyd County Coroner.
At this time, the death is being treated as suspicious.
Kelley's body is being sent to the GBI Crime Lab for an autopsy

Kayla Dawn Forsyth, 25 of Rome, was arrested on Thursday after police said she stole a Chevy sedan from a home on Turner Bend Road near Coosa High School.
Reports said that Forsyth is charged with theft by taking a motor vehicle, entering an automobile with the intent to commit a crime, and parole violation.

Lafayette 9-1-1 has informed AM1180 News that firefighters were dispatched to the Old Barwick Building on McLemore Street in Lafayette this weekend.
9-1-1 said the initial call came in at 1:48pm Saturday and when the fire department arrived the building was already fully involved.

A man was arrested in Ft Oglethorpe for allegedly waving a gun around while threatening to kill someone.
According to the Ft Oglethorpe Police Department: Adam Drake Delagarza, 37, of Tubman Way in Dalton was charged Nov. 2 with obstruction of officers, aggravated assault, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, burglary, and first-degree criminal damage to property. He has been released on bond.
Officers were dispatched to Alemia Drive a little after 5 a.m. on Nov. 2 in reference to Delagarza pointing a gun at another man.
victim told police he was in an apartment with Delagarza, at which time Delagarza pointed a pistol at him and made the statement, “I’m going to kill you,” reports show. “The victim stated he could hear the click of the offender pulling the trigger,” officer James Davis said. When they approached the apartment, officers encountered a female witness who claimed Delagarza was still inside with the gun and that he was possibly suicidal.
Officers searched the apartment and eventually found Delagarza attempting to hide in the attic area under some insulation material. After failing to comply with officer commands, Delagarza was tased.
Delagarza was transported to Hutcheson Medical Center for care before being transported to Catoosa County jail.

The name of the person fatally injured in a two-vehicle accident early Thursday morning on Highway 411 north, has now been released.
According to Cherokee County Coroner Jeremy Deaton, 25 year old Lani Michelle Wilkerson-Hall, of Centre, was killed when her Mitsubishi Eclipse collided head-on with a 2004 Jeep Liberty, driven by 19 year old Rebecca Price, also of Centre.
Hall, who according to Alabama Law Enforcement Agency accident reports, wasn't wearing a seat belt – was pronounced dead at the scene.
A two year old child in Hall's vehicle was taken to Floyd Medical Center to be checked out.
Price was also transported to Floyd for treatment of her injuries.
That crash occurred approximately one mile south of the Georgia line, just before 5:30am.
The Cherokee County Rescue Squad extricated one of the drivers from their vehicle – while members of the McCord's Fire Department extricated the other.
Emergency personnel attempted to call in a chopper; however, they were told that Erlanger was unable to fly due to weather conditions, and a call was then made to LifeSaver, with the results being the same.
The accident is currently under investigation by the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency.
