A man remains in jail for allegedly physically assaulting a woman on October 17.

According to arrest warrants at the Floyd County Jail, 28-year-old Justin Lee Huston of Leafmore Road apartment in Rome tied the victim’s hands behind her back and threatened her with a knife.

The reports state Huston kicked the victim in the shoulder and abdomen while she was on

the ground. He also allegedly struck the victim with a USB cable several times which caused lacerations on her shoulder.

Huston is charged with aggravated assault, battery and a parole violation. He remains in the Floyd County Jail without bond.

 Chattooga County S.A.F.E. Shooting Sports sign-ups  Nov. 2^nd at the Extension/4-H Office

Chattooga County 4-H is offering 4 shooting sports disciplines for the 2015-2016 year. Students are encouraged to sign-ups for BB, Archery, .22, and Shotgun teams on Nov. 2^nd. The BB team is open for students in 5^th through 8^th grade. The Archery team is open for students in 5^th through 12^th grade. Shotgun/Modified Trap is open for students in 7^th through 12^th grade. The .22 Rifle Team is open for all high school students in 9^th through 12^th grade. All disciplines are limited to a certain amount of participants, so make sure to come soon to confirm your spot on a team. What is Project S.A.F.E.

Project S.A.F.E. (Shooting Awareness, Fun and Education) is an active program, attractive to youth and adult audiences. The program is curriculum based and designed to assist young people in personal development, establish a personal environmental ethic and explore life-long vocational and a vocational activities. The program uses experiential learning and positive interactions with youth and adult role models to help young people develop self-concept, self-assurance and a positive self-image.

The program promotes responsibility, decision-making and identifying realistic, personal goals. Participants may elect to compete at a level appropriate for their abilities or pursue other objectives. Participants have shown high achievement in the field, shop or classroom and on target range, but personal development for young people and leaders is the real objective. The program strives to make "every kid a winner," and to "make the best better."

Like other 4-H projects, S.A.F.E. has a subject matter base. It has strong links to natural resources, wildlife, outdoor recreation and safety. The content is drawn from sports medicine, psychology, education, biological and physical sciences engineering, mathematics, technology, as well as American traditions, folklore and history.

Project S.A.F.E. Objectives

• Enhance youth development of self-concept, character and personal growth through safe, educational and socially acceptable involvement in shooting activities.
• To involve youth in a life skills program that teaches safe and responsible use of firearms including sound decision-making, self-discipline and concentration.
• To promote the highest standards of safety, sportsmanship and ethical behavior.
• To expose participants to the broad array of vocational and life-long avocation activities related to shooting sports.
• To strengthen families through participation in life-long recreational activities.
• To complement and enhance the impact of existing safety, shooting and hunter education programs using experiential (hands on) educational methods and progressive development of skills and abilities.

The State Bar of Georgia General Practice and Trial Section, in partnership with Georgia Legal Services Program, are hosting Ask-A-Lawyer Day today, Thursday, October 29, 2015.

The purpose of this event, volunteer lawyers will be available for free legal services to extend access to justice in rural and small cities throughout the state. Lawyers will be available to provide advice on issues pertaining to family law, criminal law, and wills and powers of attorney.

This event will be held at the Chattooga County Civic Center, 44 Highway 48, Summerville from 10:00a.m. – 2:00p.m.  No appointment is necessary.

The State Bar of Georgia exists to foster among the members of the Bar of this state the principles of duty and service to the public; to improve the administration of justice; and to advance the science of law. All persons authorized to practice law in this state are required to be members.
