Mayor of Trion Larry Stansell would like to announce that The Town of Trion will have their regular Workshop / Council Meeting in the Town Hall Conference Room, Thursday, April 23, 2015. The Workshop will begin at 6:00p.m. and the Regular Meeting will follow shortly after.

Pepper: Phytophthora capsici, Sclerotinia (white mold), bacterial leaf spot
Tomatoes: bacterial leaf spot, Sclerotium rolfsii
Watermelon: Fusarium wilt, Pseudomonas syringae leaf spots, Pythium, Phytophthora capsici, Gummy stem blight
Cucumber and Squash: Phytophthora capsici, Pythium (cottony leak in cucumber)
In honor of World Red Cross and Red Crescent Day, the American Red Cross encourages eligible donors to give blood in May. By reminding the public of the constant need for blood, you can help ensure blood is available for patients in about 2,600 hospitals served nationwide by the Red Cross.

Mr. Wallace Frank “Shorty” Thomas, Jr., age 82 of Trion, GA passed away Tuesday April 21, 2015 in Chattanooga, TN. Mr. Thomas was born August 19, 1932 in Lyerly, GA. He was a self-employed truck driver, enjoyed farming, and Trade Day.
Mr. Thomas was preceded in death by his wife, Nancy Thomas; infant son, Wallace F. Thomas, III; grandchild, Michael Shane Hampton; sisters, Esma Ramirez, Marie Hasty, Ann Hammonds, and Gris Trammell; brother, Durham Thomas.
Mr. Thomas is survived by sons, Barry Thomas and his companion, Lisa of Orlando, FL and Frankie Thomas and his wife, Terri of Trion, GA; daughters, Wendy Thomas Ash of Summerville, GA and Sherry Thomas Hampton of Trion, GA; grandchildren, Tristan Ash, Caden Ash, Jessie Ash, Levi Thomas, Autumn Thomas, Keith Thomas, B. J. “Jake” Thomas, Dameon Ingram, and Stephanie Shirley; great-grandchildren, Dylan Shirley, Kara Watkins, and Malikah Thomas; special friend, Angie Thompson; niece and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted Friday, April 24, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. in the Petitt Chapel of Coffman Funeral Funeral Home with Rev. Ken Johnson officiating. Interment will follow in West Hill Cemetery.
Visitation for Mr. Wallace Frank “Shorty” Thomas, Jr. will be Thursday, April 23, 2015 at the Coffman Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.
The following gentlemen have been asked to serve as Pallbearers, B. J. Thomas, Levi Thomas, Dameon Ingram, Tim Trammell, Jeffrey, and Scott Crowe. Honorary Pallbearers will be Kenny Hollingsworth, Keith Thomas, Jim Pedigrew, Sam Pedigrew, and Gene Hampton.

Floyd County Police are searching for a man pretending to be a police officer who they say is driving a black charger with a blue light on the dash, pulling people over and flashing a badge.
It has happened twice that police know of in the last couple of days, both times on Calhoun Road.
One incident happened when the impostor pulled a female over near Fun Wheels skating center that was crowded with parents and children on a Friday night.
The Floyd County Police are patrolling the area in search of the man described as either a light-skin black man or a Hispanic man who was wearing blue pants, a blue shirt and a badge on his belt.
Another incident the woman he pulled over questioned his authority by asking “what the stop was for.”
" he said he had checked the vehicle tag and it had come back stolen,” “which was not true", said Sgt. Rusty Williams with the Floyd County Police Department. The police impostor fled when confronted by the woman. Williams says the Black Charger he is driving, equipped with police blue lights, and resembles the Charger driven by a real Floyd County Police investigator.
The Sergeant is fearful for the public and the impostor. "People around here they don't take kindly by being stopped by someone who's not the police", said Sgt. Williams. So far a weapon has not been seen. Floyd County Police are still trying to figure out what is motivating this counterfeit cop.
Floyd County Police are asking anyone with information on this impostor police officer to give them a call before someone gets hurt, including they say the perpetrator.

Container Gardening Workshop planned with Master Gardeners and Pine Ridge Outdoor Supply
Join the Master Gardeners and Friends at Pine Ridge Outdoor Supply on May 7th at 6:00 to learn how to plant and care for a container garden created by you! From combination plantings, dish gardens, or a spectacular foliage plant, Klaudia MacMahon will get you off to the right start. Would you like to create an entry to the 2nd annual Chattooga County Agricultural Fair? Containers must be planted and in your possession by May 28th, and combination plantings by July 16th. This is the perfect time to get started! Create a Mother’s Day gift, or better yet, bring your mother with you as a treat!
You may bring your own container or purchase one at Pine Ridge Outdoor Supply. Plants will be available and so will the advice! There is no cost other than the materials that you use. You do not have to be a Master Gardener to attend!
