An incident on June 27th brought Chattooga County deputies to the Sequoyah Motel on Highway 27.

After officers pulled up, some people that had been sitting in the back of a truck ran to a room after seeing the deputy's car. After asking around, others told officers that some people had been shooting bottle rockets and fire crackers, even after having been asked to put them away.

While walking to the room that several people ran to after the officers pulled up, they noticed several beer cans leading to the room. A female answered at the door and appeared as if she had consumed alcohol. Officers reviewed her ID and confirmed that she was over twenty-one years of age. She told the officers that two other males were with her, and they found them inside the room.

One male was identified as Terry Reed, Jr. Mr. Reed stated that he was "nineteen and drunk" when asked how old he was. Officers obtained his license, and confirmed that he was nineteen years old. Mr. Reed tested positive for alcohol and was taken to Chattooga County Jail. 

On Sunday, June 29, Chattooga County deputies were called to Butler Dairy Road due to a burglary. 

The owner of the burglarized home told deputies that he and his wife left the house around 11:00 pm the night of the 28th, and returned to their home about an hour and a half later. Upon returning, they realized their vehicle had been broken into. The burglar had pried open the small window on the front passenger side to enter into the car. The owner observed that the items inside the car had been rummaged through, but did not see that anything was missing.

Once they got closer to their house, the couple realized it had been broken into as well. A window pane had been removed and a boarded up window had been tampered with. The owners' belongings had been looked through, and the safe inside had its keypad removed. The case is still under investigation

On May 5th, Chattooga County deputies were called to Melba Drive to locate a Mr. Daniel Milstead.

Mr. Milstead had an escape warrant from Floyd County. Officers from Chattooga and Floyd Counties had attempted to find Mr. Milstead previously at the residence, and before had spoken with Kimberly Watson and Treasie Eggerichs, who both live at the residence. The women's roommate, Renee King, had been mentioned in a tip to officers that she would be with Mr. Milstead. Ms. King was not present the first time deputies approached the residence.

Later, deputies came to the door and after several knocks, Ms. King and Ms. Watson came to the door. Ms. King denied that Mr. Milstead was home when questioned, and gave consent to officers to search the home. Mr. Milstead was found in Ms. King's bedroom closet shortly, and placed under arrest for escaping prison and obstruction of officers

The three female roommates were asked if any illegal items were inside the home. Ms. Watson told officers that they had two Methamphetamine pipes in their bedroom, but Ms. Eggerichs handed officers three clear glass pipes. The pipes contained suspected Methamphetamine residue. Watson and Eggerichs were placed under arrest for methamphetamine possession and all three, including King, were charged with harboring an escapee. 

A salesman at a local truck dealership has been accused of theft.

A customer to the dealership located on Highway 27 told Chattooga County deputies on June 16th that she had purchased a Chevrolet Trailblazer in mid-April, and placed a down-payment of $1500 to a salesman. The salesman later told his employer that she had only paid $100 but promised the remainder of the $1500 the next week.

The customer then said in mid-May, the salesman came to her home to receive her monthly payment, where she paid $1000. The owner of the dealership said he knew nothing of that particular payment, but that the customer was behind a payment.

The customer  said about a week later, she returned to the dealership to find a car for her daughter. She found one she liked and put $2000 down for it; the payment was given to the same salesman. The owner mentioned again that he did not know about the payment, but the car had been sold.

The owner also said that the salesman had not been working for him for about two weeks, and he did not know his whereabouts. The woman had come in on the 16th to see about her daughter's car and make her monthly payment on the Chevrolet Trailblazer. She stated that she did not know that she was behind a payment, or that her daughter's car had been sold.

A verbal domestic dispute caused a man to call authorities on Monday, June 16th. 

The dispute was caused by a child custody case that had recently been moved from Chattooga County to Murray County.

The man that had called officers said that his son and his son's girlfriend had been arguing. The son told officers that his girlfriend had locked herself in the bedroom, so he called his parents to prevent the argument from escalating. The girlfriend had allegedly struck her boyfriend in the face, but officers did not see any marks caused by any physical altercation.

The couple was told to separate to their own residences, and everyone involved was advised legal protection regarding child custody issues. 

A case of harassment between a woman and another family was filed on Monday, June 16th. 

The victim told Chattooga County officers that another woman had driven by her home on several occasions while yelling obscenities to her and her children. The victim also mentioned an instance where the woman had tried to run over her and her children as they were walking down the road.

The harassed woman believes that the attacks are caused by the woman wanting to have a relationship with her husband.

The woman was informed of the proper steps to file restraining orders and was told to contact officers again if the harassment continues. 

A local truck driver was accused of driving under the influence on Tuesday, June 17th. 

A truck driver called officers to request a breath test to prove that he had not been under any influence while driving his truck to his residence. He had recently unhooked the log trailer he had been hauling across from his residence and proceeded to back up his driveway. When he arrived home, his wife informed him that someone had called to complain about his driving along Hemphill Road. The caller had mentioned that he was "driving like he was intoxicated." 

The driver stated that he had been driving a truck around 18 years, and wanted to take precautionary steps in case his employer heard about the complaint or if any more complaints were called in. The officers issued the breath test, and the driver tested negative for alcohol.  

A local young man has stolen once again from his grandfather. This time, he was able to take a firearm.

One grandfather noticed that his 12 gauge Winchester pump action shotgun was missing from his home on June 11th. The man called Chattooga County officers to file a report the next day. The man told officers that his grandson had asked to use the firearm on several occasions and had been denied every instance he had asked. The grandson also allegedly told him that "He would get the shotgun and there would be no way to prove he took it."  

The grandson has also stolen several items from his grandfather in the past.
