There is no one listed on the Arrest Report for December 5, according to the Chattooga County Jail.

The Chattooga County Sheriff's Office has opened an investigation into a forged check incident that occurred was reported on Thursday. A Summerville man reported to the department that someone had  written a check in the amount of $341 on his account. The check was written to the office of a local dentist. According to the report, the owner of the checking account didn't write the check and he's not sure who did.  

A shoplifting incident at Walmart earlier in the month was reported on Friday. According to the report by the Chattooga County Sheriff's Office, the store's Loss Prevention Specialist Johnnie Smith said that on November 16, a Trion man and an unidentified white female filled up a buggy with items and then pushed the buggy past  the sales registers and out the door into the parking lot, without paying for the items inside the buggy. The items reportedly were put into a red Ford Thunderbird and the couple left the property. Smith handed over to deputies two discs, assumed to contain video evidence, a list of property taken, and two photographs of the alleged shoplifters. Smith also told deputies a similar incident occurred the next day on November 17.  The incident report does not contain a list of items stolen or an estimated value.

A fraudulent check was reported by National Title Pawn, Highway 27, Trion, on Friday. According to the Chattooga County Sheriff's Department report, the check was written in the amount of $4,550 on a Taco Bell account and to be paid to a Trion woman. National Title Pawn reportedly refused to cash the check. The woman had told them her husband received the check via Fed-Ex Transportation. When National Title Pawn contacted Taco Bell, they were told not to cash the check. National Title Pawn was told by Taco Bell representatives that Taco Bell did not have an account with J.P Morgan Chase Bank, which was the bank on which the check was reportedly written. The incident was turned over to investigators.  

A robber used tools to break into a cash drawer at Walmart in Lafayette late last Thursday night. Video shows the black male using a hammer and other tools to pry the cash drawer open. He took around $400. Walmart officials believe the same man has been involved in similar stores in Chattanooga, Dalton, Fort Oglethorpe, and Marietta. While the amount of cash taken is small, it has cost the store 2-3 thousand dollars in repairs. Video shows the man leaving the property in a gold or brown Ford Taurus, with no hubcaps on the front.  Anyone with information is asked to call the Lafayette Police Department.

In Dalton, they're searching for a suspect in an armed robbery that occurred Monday at the REgion's Bank on Thornton Avenue. The black make, in disguise and carrying a black bag, entered the bank around 1:30 p.m., and demanded money. He fled with an undisclosed amount of cash and dropped some of it after leaving the bank. No far the search for the man has turned up nothing.

An accident occurring just before 10 am this morning at the Floyd/Chattooga County line. The one-vehicle accident is on Highway 27 just past Silver Hill Road. A dump truck has flipped over in a ditch. No word on injuries. Be careful if traveling in the area.

A 5-million dollar construction project broke ground last week at Lafayette High School, The project will add six new classrooms and a 14-thousand square foot field house to the campus. It will also replace the heating and cooling systems for the school gym. The additions are expected to be finished by summer. The new classrooms will eliminate the mobile classrooms now being used. The new will house will have football locker rooms, a large wresting room and training room. A  locker room for competition cheerleaders, and separate weight rooms for male and female students.
