This is the final week  for  scarecrow’s to be entered and displayed for judging in the first Chattooga County Scarecrow Contest.  The deadline for entry is Friday, September 28^th at 5pm at the Chattooga County Extension Office.  Scarecrows must be completed for judging by Saturday, September 29^th at 2pm.  Judging will begin at 3pm, and the winners will be announced at Down Home Farm Day at noon on October 27.  An Atlanta attorney says Georgia's school superintendent and local officials are illegally using taxpayer money to lobby against a proposed constitutional amendment on charter schools.

Glenn Delk has asked the state Board of Education to hold an emergency meeting on his claims and determine if state funds should be withheld from local school boards whom he believes have broken the law.

His complaint targets Schools Superintendent John Barge and local superintendents in Atlanta and Fulton County. The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports the board has forwarded the letter to Attorney General Sam Olens for guidance.

Barge has spoken against an amendment that would allow the state to create more charter schools. Barge spokesman Matt Cardoza declined to comment on the complaint.

Amazon will be filling 250 full-time jobs at their Chattanooga  warehouse. Job seekers can apply beginning Monday at the Tennessee Department of Labor  from  8 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily. Hourly pay will start at $11 an hour plus benefits.
