By Sunday morning the black smoke cloud above Berryton had lightened considerably. 

 AM1180 spoke to Chattooga County's Emergency Management Agency Director this morning on the fire that's been burning since Friday.

Eddie Henderson said the situation is looking much better. He said the situation is improving with all air quality readings improving considerably. He said the evacuation will be continued. 

He said he's not sure how long  the incident will last and will have a better idea this afternoon. Henderson said he wanted to thank all of the agencies involved in helping with the fire and the public as well for all of the cooperation.  

More than 50 fire fighting agencirs have been brought in to help contain the blaze. Am 1180 will have more information as it becomes available.

The World's Longest Yard Sale is weekend.

The event which winds from Michigan to Gadsden, Alabama officially takes the route of US Highway 127 but in this area, a lot of the yard sale traffic gets diverted to US 27 through Walker County.

The dates are August 2-5 and this is the 25th anniversary.

Also, HGTV will be filming the yard sales for a one-hour special. 

Today (July 29) is the second day of an infantry and camp demonstration at Chickamauga Battlefield. Living history volunteers representing the 59th North Carolina Regiment will be at the Battlefield Visitors Center from 9-3 today. Demonstrations will feature rifle firings and talks about the life of the common soldier during the civil war. 

On Wednesday of this week a resident of the Elder Trailer Park contacted Chattooga County officers on suspicions that gas had been stolen from her vehicle. The complainant informed police that she had ran out of gas at a local store and put around $25.00 worth of gas in her tank the day before and that she had not traveled anywhere. The complainant estimated that around 7 gallons had been stolen from her vehicle. She reported seeing several people around her home and the other homes in the area several times in the past week. A patrol car was requested for the neighborhood.

About 1000 Chattooga County voters are expected to take advantage of early voting by 5 p.m. Friday, July 27. That's when early voting shuts down in the county.

As of 10 a.m. on Wednesday 925 Chattooga Countians had voted early. There are 13,000  registered voters in Chattooga County.

Any who would like to vote early can do so at the Chattooga County Registrar's Office on Commerce Street in downtown Summerville between now and Friday from 8:30 a.m. until 5 p.m each day.

The Primary Election is July 31.

A Chattooga county woman is in Floyd Medical Center with a collapsed lung after being reportedly stabbed in the back yesterday. 

According to the Chattooga County Sheriff's Department, Beverly Chisolm, a Preston Dr. address, told officers, she was asleep when she woke up just before 8 a.m. to a stinging pain in her left shoulder blade. She said she didn't see who had stabbed her and there was no one in the room when she woke up. However, there was a male and female inside the house at the time. The couple was questioned yesterday and will be questioned again this morning according to investigators. No arrests have been made so far.
