Mr. Dewey Henry Hoskins obit (willis)

Mr. Dewey Henry Hoskins- age 82 of Summerville, GA passed away Wednesday, October 12, 2011 at his residence.  He was a member and Deacon of New Bethel Baptist Church in Summerville, A US Army Veteran of Korean Conflict, A member of Masonic Lodge #47, a City Councilman, and formerly employed with Farmers and Merchant Bank, Modern Cleaners, and General Electric Plant.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Dock  and Alice Hoskins, brother, Charles Hoskins, Sister, Cora Hoskins.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Willie Ruth Hoskins of Summerville, GA; two daughters, Alice and Larry Lee of Port St. Lucie, Fl; Karen Hoskins of West Palm Beach, FL; Son Dewey Dewayne and Bobbet Hoskins of Florence, KY; five grandchildren; seven sisters-in-law, four brothers-in-law; two aunts and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Homegoing services will be Saturday, October 15, 2011 at 1 pm at New Bethel Baptist Church with Pastor Kevin Roach and other ministers officiating.  The family will receive friends at the church Friday evening from 7 pm til 8 pm with Masonic Rites.

Interment will be in the Summerville Cemetary.  Arrangements are by Willis Funeral Home, Inc, Dalton.

Mrs. Faye Waits Ozment (ER)

MRS. FAYE WAITS OZMENT, age 76, of Rockmart, formerly of Summerville, Georgia passed away Sunday, October 9, 2011, in Rockmart, Georgia following an extended illness. A native Chattooga Countian, She was born on May 16, 1936 to the late Stanley and Effie Coker Waits. Mrs. Ozment was retired from the Sample Department of Mohawk Industries and a member of Four Mile Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by husband, the late Billy Joe Ozment on January 4, 2003, a son, the late Terry Ozment on January 21, 2005, and a sister the late Carol Baker. Surviving are son-Joel Ozment of Rockmart; sisters-Eddie Tinney of Rome, Ruth Howell of Summerville, and Edith McGraw of Cedartown; brother-Dudley Waits of Rockmart; Five Grandchildren, Seven Great Grandchildren, several Nieces and Nephews also survive. Funeral services will be held Thursday, October 13th, at 2:00 P.M. from the J. D. Hill Memorial Chapel of Earle Rainwater Funeral Home with Pastor Joel Smith officiating, interment in Greenhills Memory Garden. Active Pallbearers-Joshua Qzment, Benjamin Ozment, David Ledbetter, Tony McGraw, Brad Baker, and Euell Price. The Family will receive friends Wednesday from 6 until 9 P.M. at the Funeral Home. Mr. Kenneth Carter Payne obit (M)

Mr. Payne was born June 23, 1931 in Sylvania, AL, the son of the late Herbert Clayton Payne, SR and Viveen Warren Payne. He was a member of the Harrell Street Church of God of the Union Assembly. Mr. Payne was retired from Caron Yarn. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force . Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Myra Payne Tanner; and 4 brothers, Cledith Payne, Oscar Payne, Melford Payne, and Herb Payne.

Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Lula Mae Payne; children, Felicia Rena Payne, Buford Wayne Payne, Kenneth Carter Payne, II, Herbert Clayton Payne, III.; sisters, Johnnie Lewis, Gwendelyn Thompson, and Virgie Buffington; 18 Grandchildren; and 12 Great Grandchildren.

Memorial services will be held at 3:00 p. m. Sunday, October 9, 2011 at Harrell Street Church of God of the Union Assembly. Rev. Houston Eaton and Rev. Denny Smith will officiate.

The family will receive friends at the church on Sunday, October 9, 2011 from 2:00 p. m. until the service hour.

 

Road Closing

Hunter Road will be closed Thursday (Oct. 6) through Tuesday (Oct. 11), according to Chattooga County Public Works Director Lamar Canada. Hunter Road  is located just off Highway 27 next to Hunter Furniture. The road is being closed for bridge repairs.

 

Mrs. Madora Medeline White obit(E)

Mrs. Madora Medeline White of White Road, Lyerly, Ga. passed away Friday, September 30, 2011 at her residence. She was born December 10, 1923 in Chattooga County Georgia daughter of the late W.O. & Emma Carroll Allmon. She was retired from the Needling Department of Georgia Rug Mill and was a member of New Hope South Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Maxwell White and a number of brothers & sisters.

Survivors include daughter & son-in law, Nancy & Dave Johnston, Lyerly; son & daughter-in-law Richard & Frances White, Lyerly; sister-in-law Frances White Lyerly; 5 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren. several nieces & nephews survive.

Funeral services will be conducted Sunday, October 2, 2011 at 4:00 p.m. from New Hope South Baptist Church with Rev. Kenny Roach officiating. Burial in the Church Cemetery.

Mrs. White will lie-in-state at the Church from 2 until 4 p.m. on Sunday.

Pallbearers include the following grandsons & great-grandsons: Chuck Petitt, Cass Petitt, Tony White, Zach White, Cale Pledger, Caleb Pledger.

Mr. William Lamar Wright obit (M)

Mr. William Lamar Wright, age 48, of Ringgold, GA, passed away Friday September 30, 2011 in Hutcheson Medical Center.

 Mr. Wright was born August 2, 1963, in Ft. Oglethrope, GA, the son of the late Bud and Delta McGill Wright. He was a construction worker with Eslinger Construction Company. Survivors incude his brothers and sisters-in-law, Jimmy & Carole Hosmer, Mike & Kathy Burnett, nieces and nephews, Christy, Michael, Lane, Jared and Courtney.

Memorial serivces will be held 1: 00 p.m Sunday October 2, 2011 from the Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jimmy Wilborn officiating. Mrs. Beverly Gentry Hardin, age 41, of Summerville, GA passed away Wednesday, September 28, 2011 at Hamilton Medical Center.
Beverly was born in Summerville, Georgia on June 1, 1970, daughter of Joyce Kirby Gentry and the late Ray “Dick“ Gentry. In addition to her father, Beverly was preceded in death by a great nephew, Evan Gentry. Beverly was a member of the West Summerville Baptist Church and was previously employed with Georgia Rug Mill.
Beverly is survived by her mother, Joyce Gentry, sisters and brother-in-law, Doris Laney, Judy and Danny Murdock, nieces, Holly Moore, Megan Seay, nephews, Garth Gentry, Derek Murdock, great nieces, Breanna Adams, Kaitlyn Adams, Jazlyn Mosley, companion, Dickie Buchanan and beloved pet “Nickels.”
Funeral Services for Beverly will be held Sunday, October 2, 2011 at 2:00 P.M. in the Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jimmy Weaver officiating. Interment will follow in the Greenhills Memory Gardens.

Mr. James W. “Bud“ Anderson, age 84, of Summeville, GA passed away Wednesday, September 28, 2011 at his residence.

Mr. Anderson was born in Summerville, Georgia on July 25, 1927, son of the late Matthew Bence Anderson and Hattie Elizabeth Payton Anderson. Other than his parents, Mr. Anderson was preceded in death by sisters, Bessie Mann, Annie Woodall, Willie Sizemore, Mary Blalock, Betty Anderson and Sally Anderson. Mr. Anderson was a member of the West Berryton Faith Temple.
Mr. Anderson is survived by his wife, Kathleen Stone Anderson, son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Tasha Anderson, daughters and sons-in-law, Debbie and Dennis Stewart, Judy and Ron Baldwin, brother, Bence Junior Anderson, grandchildren, Chris Millican, Cameron Anderson, Michael Baldwin, 7 Great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews.
Funeral Services for Mr. Anderson will be held Friday, September 30, 2011 at 4:00 P.M. in the Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. John Mann officiating. Interment will follow in the Lyerly Cemetery.

Mr. Rickey Lamar Hampton obit

MR. RICKEY LAMAR HAMPTON, age 54, of Cloudland, Georgia passed away Sunday, September 18, 2011, at his residence following an extended illness. Born in Walker County, Georgia on November 11, 1956, was a son of the late Bertha Brown Hampton, and Hoyt Hampton who survives. He was an auto body repairman.

Surviving are daughters, Melissa Sue Hampton and Rochelle Louise Hampton of Indiana; father & mother- Hoyt & Ann Hampton of Cloudland; sisters-Linda Erwin of Centre, AL., Brenda Guffey of Cloudland, Barbara Hampton of Summerville; Lisa Hampton of Cloudland, brother-Terry Hampton of Indiana; half sisters- Linda Sue Ingle and Darlene Ingle; half brother-Danny Ingle all of Chattanooga; four Grandchildren; several Nieces and Nephews.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, September 20th, at 2:00 P.M. from the J. D. Hill Memorial Chapel of Earle Rainwater Funeral Home with Rev. John Williams officiating, interment in Mount Olive Cemetery. Active Pallbearers Anthony Downey, Levi Smith, Dale Pevehouse, Reuben Gaskey, Brandon Leming, Kenneth Bates.
