Mr. Millard S. Rutherford

Mr. Millard Stephens Rutherford, age 87, of Hilltop Drive, Summerville, GA passed away Tuesday, January 12, 2010 at Oakview Nursing & Rehabilitation Center.  Mr. Rutherford was born September 19, 1922 in Chattooga County GA.  He was retired from Jackson Chevrolet and was a member of Summerville First Baptist Church.Mr. Rutherford was preceded in death by his father and mother, Walter Glenn Rutherford and Lena Stephens Rutherford.Survivors are his wife, Geraldine Kellett Rutherford of Summerville, GA and his daughter and son-in-law, Pat and James Evans of Summerville, GA.Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, January 14, 2010 from the chapel of the Erwin-Petitt Funeral Home with Dr. Kenneth Summey officiating.  A private family interment will follow in Summerville Cemetery.Mr. Rutherford will lie-in-state Thursday, January 14, 2010 at the Erwin-Petitt Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 12noon until 2pm.The following gentlemen have been asked to be pallbearers and need to assemble at the funeral home on Thursday by 1:30pm:  Sidney Lanier, Mike Lanier, Tony Jones, Harmon Petitt, Dale Martin and Ken Johnson.The family requests no food.  At other hours, the family will be at the residence of the daughter, Pat Evans, 280 Walnut Avenue, Summerville, GA.Erwin-Petitt Funeral Home is in charge of funeral arrangements for Mr. Millard Stephens Rutherford, who passed away on Tuesday. 

Mrs. Esma G. Ramirez

Mrs. Esma Gertrude Ramirez, age 87, of HARRELL Street, Trion, GA passed away Tuesday, January 5, 2010 at Redmond Regional Medical Center.  Mrs. Ramirez was born July 25, 1922 in Cherokee County, AL.  She was a housewife and Baptist by faith.Mrs. Ramirez was preceded in death by her husband, Lino Redondo Ramirez, Jr.; her father and mother, Wallace Frank Thomas, Sr. and Jessie Durham Thomas; sisters, Marie Morgan Hasty and Ann Hammonds; granddaughter, Emily Thornton and niece, Kathy Trammell.Survivors are her son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Deborah Ramirez, Sr. of Menlo, GA; daughters and son-in-law, Yolanda and William Spurlock of Trion, GA and Angela Ramirez of LaFayette, GA; brothers, Durham Thomas of Trion, GA and Wallace Thomas of LaFayette, GA; sister, Griselda Trammell of Trion, GA; 10 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive.Funeral services will be conducted Friday, January 8, 2010, at 1pm from the chapel of the Erwin-Petitt Funeral Home with Rev. Mrs. Jacqueline Adams

Mrs. Jacqueline Adams, age 59, of Summerville, GA passed away Sunday, January 3, 2010 at Redmond Regional Medical Center.

Mrs. Adams was born November 28, 1950 in Chattooga County, GA, the daughter of Gilford and Eleanor Stamper. She worked at Riegel Textile Mills for 7 years, then at ITT Lester for 22 years. She was a member of the New Spirit and Truth Church where she served as an usher. Mrs. Adams graduated from Chattooga High School in 1969. She later married Emory Nathan Adams in September of 1970. They had two children, Emory Bryant, Jr. and wife, Josain Adams; and Natasha Renee Adams. Other survivors incude two grandchildren, Jordan Adams and Zoe Adams; sisters and brothers-in-law, Gwen and Freddie Christopher, Peggy Evans, and Charlotte and John Lewis Allen.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p. m. Thursday, January 7, 2010 at the chapel of Mason Funeral Home with Bishop V T Harden officiating. Burial will follow on Friday at 11:00 a. m in the Chattanooga National Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Glenn Williams, Joe Owens, Joseph Owens, Lanny Farmer, and Marciaus Thompson. Flower Ladies will be Angelia Dixon, Annette Johnson, Barbara McSears, Irene Parker and Mildred Crusoe. Honorary Flower Ladies will be Dorothy Johnson, Penny McCutchins, and Ardella Shropshire.

Mrs. Ruby Louise Morrow

Mrs. Ruby Louise Morrow,age 83, of Summerville, GA  passed away Monday, December 28, 2009 at her residence.
Mrs. Morrow was born August 16, 1926 in Athens, Alabama, the daughter of the late Fred and
Rossie Bailey Shireman.  She was a homemaker and a member of Pennville First Baptist Church. She had worked at Best Manufacturing and Georgia Glove Mill.  Mrs. Morrow loved trade day and yard sales.
She was preceded in death by her son, Jimmy Howell; sister, Wealthie Underwood
Price; brothers, Earnest Shireman, James Shireman and Freddie Shireman; mother-in-law,
Virgie Morrow; and son-in-law, Cecil Floyd Edgeworth.
Survivors include her husband, James V. Morrow; daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Jerry
Underwood; grandchildren, Karen and Jamie Dennison and Sandra Hewitt; step-grandchildren,
Janlyn Underwood, Jerry Underwood, JR, Jason Underwood, and Kelly Rimer;
great grandchildren; Brandon Webb, Jenna and William Harris, Zachary Dennison; step great
grandchildren; Elliott Underwood, Laney Underwood, Megan Underwood, Madison Underwood,
Jonathan Rimer, Anna-Carson Rimer, and Eric Rimer; Nieces and Nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p. m. Thursday, December 31, 2009 at Mason Funeral Home with Mr. Eddie Shireman, Rev Gary Howell, Rev. JR "James" Coffman, and Rev. Billy Dempsey. Burial will follow in Summerville Cemetery.

Mrs. Opal Stone Carr

Mrs. Opal Stone Carr, age 72, of Calhoun passed away Tuesday, December 22, 2009 at Gordon Hospital.Mrs. Carr was born on July 15, 1937, daughter of the late Fred Brown Stone and Lily Rosetta Duvall Stone.  She was a member of the House of Prayer Baptist Church and worked many years as a hostess for Shepherd’s Restaurant.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Andy Eugene Carr; a daughter, Sara Rose Carr; three brothers, Carl Stone, Harold Stone and Farnell Waldrop and by three sisters, Dimple Parker, Betty Lou Stone and Ruth Skidmore.Survivors include a son, Chet Carr of Calhoun; two daughters, Carolyn Carr of Atlanta and Janet Robinson of Calhoun; two granddaughters, Georgia and Tiffany Robinson, both of Calhoun; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Donald and Linda Stone of Tifton, GA and Ronald and Mary Frances Stone of Dalton; nieces, nephews and other relatives.Funeral services for Mrs. Opal Stone Carr will be conducted Saturday, December 26, 2009 at 11 am from the chapel of Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home with Ralph Sumners, Kevin Thomas and Steve Skidmore officiating.  Burial will follow in the Fain Cemetery.Pallbearers serving will include Rocky Skidmore, Jason Etheridge, Brian Jackson, Jeff Jackson, Scott Jackson and Robert Carroll.  The family will begin receiving friends at the funeral home on Thursday at 3pm.Online condolences may be expressed and the guestbook may be signed at www.maxbrrananddsons.comMax Brannan & Sons Funeral Home of Calhoun, GA is conducting the funeral services for Mrs. Opal Stone Carr who passed away on Tuesday.

Trash pick-up for City of Summerville

With the Christmas Holiday coming up this week, the City of Summerville has announced that trash normally picked up on Friday will instead be picked up on Thursday, December 24th.

The City of Summerville City offices will be closed on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.

The Veteran’s Memorial Park Committee announced Tuesday morning they only have 39 spaces remaining in the present location for the 12X12 markers for honoring veterans of America’s armed services.  The committe would like to encourage everyone to make arrangements for a marker as soon as possible.

Mrs. Hazel Leora Little Henderson

Mrs. Hazel Leora Little Henderson, age 99, of Summerville, GA died Wednesday, December 16, 2009 in Dallas, Georgia. Mrs. Henderson was born November 16, 1910 in Cherokee County, AL, the daughter of the late Frank G. Little and Nancy Jane Dial Little.

She was a homemaker and a member of the Pennville Missionary Alliance Church. Mrs. Henderson was an avid gardener and a devoted and loving Grandmother. She was preceded in death by her husband, Austin Flint Henderson; sons, Leon Henderson and Kenneth Wayne Henderson; grandson, Randy Henderson; 2 Sisters and 4 Brothers.

 Survivors include granddaughters and husbands, Alisa and Butch Camp, Cecelia and Jerry McMichen; step-grandchild, Tabatha Morefield; great grandchildren, Felecia Floyd, Jason Thomas, Nicole Walker, Joseph McMichen, Jeremy McMichen; step-great grandchildren, Sabreena Ansari, Amber Ansari, Alex Morefield, and Reid Morefield; great great grandchildren, Griffin Alexander, Sidney Floyd, Ian Walker, Jaydon Walker, Peyton Walker, Ashton Walker, Owen Walker, Taylor Anderson, and Alex Anderson; daughter-in-law, Charlotte Henderson; special friends, Nancy & Earl McDaniel.

Ms. Jacqueline Faith Powell Cochran, age 47, of Rome, GA, passed away Sunday December
13, 2009, at her residence.
Ms. Cochran was born March 23, 1962, in Trion, GA, the daughter of late Howard and Suda
Locklear Powell, she was a Crew Leader with Mohawk.
Survivors incude her children, Taft & Carrie Cochran, Trion, GA, Abby & Randall Parker,
Lafayette, GA, step-son, Zack Highfield, long time companion, Tim Highfield, brothers, Heath
Hampton, Bobby Bryant, Daniel Moses, sisters, Sylvia & J.W. Austin, Tammia Drake,
grandchildren, Austin Cochran, Justin Broyles, and several nieces and nephews.
