Mr. Steve Lamar Ingle, age 50, of Trion, GA, passed away Saturday August 8, 2009, at his residence. Mr. Ingle was born Dec. 11, 1958, in LaFayette, GA, the son of the late James Ingle and Margie Vanpelt Ingle. He was self-employed in construction.

Mrs. Mildred Pauline Whittle

Mrs. Mildred Pauline Whittle, age 88, of Cloudland, GA, passed away Sunday August 9, 2009, in Floyd Medical Center.

 Mrs. Whittle was born Nov. 25, 1920, in Indianapolis, Indiana, the daughter of the late Ernest and Nellie May Picou. Mrs. Whittle was a retired School Secretary with the Miami, Florida Dade County School System.

Survivors include her husband, Shelton Whittle; son & daughter-in-law, Charles & Charlotte Whittle, Mentone, AL; daughters & son-in-law, Susan Wilcox, Patricia & John Compton, Cloudland, GA; grandchildren, Kelly Thomas, Kristi Wilcox, Justin Rose, Sarah Millican, Paul Whittle,;great-grandchildren, Shania Thomas, Logan Millican, Nathaniel Millican.

The family will receive friends Tuesday August 11, 2009 at the Mason Funeral Home from 6 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers Memorials maybe made to the Chattooga County School System.

Mr. Charles Randal "Randy" Millican, age 44, of LaFayette, GA died Thursday, August 6, 2009 at his residence. Mr. Millican was born October 2, 1964 in Fort Payne, AL. He was previously employed with Mt. Vernon Mills. Mr. Millican attended the United by Faith Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by an uncle, Charles Lloyd Millican. Survivors include his children, Kia Starr Millican, Norfolk, VA and Shawn Phillip Moore, LaFayette, GA; fiancée, Sonya Millican White, Summerville, GA; father & step-mother, Marshall & Martha Millican, LaFayette, GA; mother & step-father, Marion Ruth & Troy Williamson, Cloudland, GA, step-children, Jennifer Hines and Emily Rivers, Trion, GA, and Tamara Stamper, Summerville, GA; sisters, Lynn Smith, Tracey Guffey, and Becky Jarvis, all of LaFayette, GA; grandchild, McKalee Millican; step-grandchildren, Derek Hines, Xavier Stamper, and Haley Hines; aunt, Hazel Millican; and several Nieces and Nephews. Mr. Sameul Langston Wofford

Mr. Samuel Langston “Sam” Wofford, age 69, of Kennedy Road, Ft. Payne, AL, passed away Thursday, August 6, 2009, at his residence.  Mr. Wofford was born May 25, 1940 in Chattooga County, GA.   He was a salesperson and a member of the New Canaan Non-Denominational Church.Mr. Wofford was preceded in death by his father and mother, Edgar Jennings and Annie Mae Langston Wofford; brother, Larry Wofford; and mother-in-law, Vivian Louise Kennedy

.Survivors are his wife, Faye Kennedy Wofford of Ft. Payne, AL; sonand daughter-in-law, Randall  & Kay Wofford of LaFayette, GA; daughters, Donna Wofford Bullard of Gaylesville, Al and Brenda Wofford Martin of Summerville, GA; brothers, Harold Wofford of Cleveland, TN, Dale Wofford of Westland, Michigan and Jerry Wofford of Menlo, GA; sister, Martha Ann Smith of Trion, GA; step-daughters, Paula Garrison of Summerville, GA and Patricia Campbell of Trion, GA; 13 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, August 8, 2009 at 2pm from the Erwin-Petitt Funeral Home with Rev. Bud Davis and Rev. Jerry Williams officiating.  Interment will be in Trinity Methodist Church Cemetery in Henegar, Al.

Mr. Wofford will lie-in-state Friday, August 7, 2009 at the Erwin-Petitt Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 6 until 9pm.

Pallbearers will be Edward Kennedy, Jeff Wofford, Tony Blansit, Edwin Blansit, Brandon Carlton and J. T. Campbell.  Honorary pallbearer will be Howell Wofford.

Mr. Gerald M. Byers

Mr. Gerald Marchant Byers, age 37, of Summerville, GA died Tuesday, August 4, 2009 from injuries received in a motorcycle accident.

Mr. Byers was born June 1, 1972 in Pell City, Alabama, the son of Rhodell Byers and the late Gertrude Thomas Byers. He was employed with Pliant Corporation. He was a member of the Ebenezer Baptist Church.

Mr. Byers is survived by his wife, Donna Byers; son, Devan Byers; step-son, Nicholas Kay; father and step-mother, Rhodell and Marilyn Byers; sister, Stephanie Thomas Byers; brother, Eric Byers; half-brothers, Ramon Roberson and Rashun Roberson; and a host of Aunts, Uncles,Nieces, Nephews, and Cousins.

Funeral services will be held at 12:00 noon EST on Saturday, August 8, 2009 at Ebenezer Baptist Church in Ragland, AL. Rev. Thomas Kelley will officiate, with expressions by Ervin Moss. Ms. Janice Henrietta "Jan" Brimer Young, age 62, of Trion, GA, died Thursday, August 6, 2009 at Floyd Medical Center. Ms. Young was born December 3, 1946 in Trion, GA, the daughter of Barnett Hampton Brimer and the late James Brimer. She was retired from Mt. Vernon Mills and was a member of the Quarter Century Club. Ms. Young was a member of the First Baptist Church of Trion and she attended the Trion United Methodist Church. Mr. Claude Randall “Randy” Treadaway, age 52, of Summerville passed away Saturday, August 1, 2009, at his residence.  He was born August 11, 1956 in Memphis, TN, son of the late Claude Harold and Sally Cox Treadaway.  He was a self-employed sheet metal worker.Survivors include a daughter, Cassie Treadaway of Lyerly, GA; brother and wife, Scott and Tina Treadaway, Lyerly, GA; special niece, Jessica Ratliff, Lyerly; several nieces and nephews also survive.Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, August 6, 2009 at 4:30pm from the chapel of Erwin-Petitt Funeral Home with Rev. Mr. James E. Hammond

Mr. James E. Hammond, age 70, of Summerville, GA died Tuesday, August 4, 2009 at Golden Living Center in Rome, GA. Mr. Hammond was born December 13, 1938 in Trion, GA, the son of the late Flora Evans Hammond and Carl Hammond. He was a member of the Trion Evangelical Presbyterian Church. Mr. Hammond was a retired building contractor for H & H Builders. After retiring from H & H Builders, he owned and operated Hammond Frame Shop. Mr. Hammond is survived by his wife, Sandra Hammond; son and daughter-in-law, James Todd and Bonnie Hammond, Ringgold, GA; daughters and sons-in-law, Cathy & Steve Mitchell, Marietta, GA and Carla & Clay Skognes, Roswell, GA; grandchildren, Megan Mitchell, Emily Mitchell, Anna Skognes, and Sarah Skognes. Mr. Paul Wright

Mr. Paul Wright, age 85, of Menlo, GA died Thursday, July 30, 2009 at Redmond Regional Medical Center. Mr. Wright was born May 20, 1924 in Collinsville, AL, the son of the late Grover Cleveland Wright and Minnie Clark Wright. He was retired from Bigelow-Sanford Carpet Factory and was a member of Chelsea Baptist Church.  Mr. Wright was a veteran of the United States Army, having served during WWII. He was a member of the Alpine Masonic Lodge, #211. He was preceded in death by a sister, Ruth Martin.  Survivors include his wife, Dorothy J. Wright, son, Dickie Vaughn, daughters, Jan Hix and Dwana VanHorn; brothers, Jimmy Wright, Carmen Wright, Alvis Wright, and Fred Wright; sisters, Jane Bishop, Elsie Cooper, and Catherine Chamblee, 7 grandchildren, and 8 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p. m. Sunday, August 2, 2009 at Mason Funeral HomeChapel with Rev. Dean Tapp officiating. Mrs. Bessie N. Butler

Mrs. Bessie N. Butler, age 82, of Bittings Ave., Summerville, GA passed away Wednesday afternoon (July 29, 2009) in a Rome Hospital. A daughter of the late Sam and Azor Mason Hunter, Mrs. Butler was born in Chattooga County Georgia on November 25, 1926 and was a retired textile worker.

Survivors include her husband Wayne Butler, daughter and son-in-law Shirley and Bill Hubbard of Summerville; three sisters: Mildred Edgeworth and Roxie King of Summerville, and Geneva Blackmon of Kingston, GA. two brothers: Horace Hunter of Summerville and Fred Hunter of Menlo. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be held Friday (July 31, 2009) at 1:00 p.m. from the J. D. Hill Memorial Chapel of Earle Rainwater Funeral Home with Bro. Wayne King and Bro. John Mann officiating.  Interment in Summerville Cemetery.  Active pallbearers will be Neal Edgeworth, James Edgeworth, Chris Noth, Rueben Butler, Pete Huggins, Shane Evans and Lee Banther.  Honorary Pallbearers will be Anthony Hamby, Steven Hamby, Jimmy Warnick, Chris Whitley, Timothy Evans, Dr. Andredell Hammonds, Staff of Oak View Nursing Home, A & F Hall and Fifth Floor Staff of Redmond Regional Medical Center.
