High School Football Season Kicks Off Tonight on WZQZ

The 2024 high school football regular season officially starts tonight.  Trion and Chattooga have had a week to prepare after their preseason scrimmages last week and both teams will open their seasons tonight at home against fierce rivals.

The Chattooga Indians will be looking for revenge for last year’s 28-3 season opening road loss at Lafayette.  The Ramblers knocked the Indians off last year in week one but only recorded two more victories throughout the season en route to a 3-7 season and 6th place finish in region 6-AAA.  Lafayette will also be breaking in a new head coach in Ethan Thompson who takes over for the departed Andy Scott who led the Ramblers for the past three seasons.  Lafayette has won the last two contests against the Indians.

The Trion Bulldogs will kick things off with a bang at Sam R. McCain stadium against the visiting Gordon Lee Trojans in the oldest continuous rivalry in the state of Georgia.  Tonight will be the 90th meeting between the two archrivals.  The Bulldogs have dominated this series as of late winning 11 of the last 12.  Trion’s average margin of victory over the last three contests has been 35 points with the Bulldogs lighting up the scoreboard with an average of 48 points scored per game on offense.  This year the Trojans are expected to be a much improved team and will certainly be motivated to avenge the lopsided losses over the past three seasons.

You can watch all of the action unfold tonight as both Trion and Chattooga’s games will be livestreamed on the WZQZ Facebook page.  The Trion vs Gordon Lee game will also be broadcast live on 99.1 FM and AM 1180.  Paul Cavin and Jeremy Burke will call the action for the Trion Bulldogs and Chris “Bubba” Wilson and Steiner Davis will be on the mic for the Chattooga game.  Join each crew for the pregame show around 7:15 pm with kickoff to follow at 7:30 pm.
