Betty Jean Potts Reynolds, Obit (M)

Mrs. Betty Jean Potts Reynolds, age 79, of Trion, GA, died Sunday, August 18, 2024, at the Cartersville Center for Nursing and Healing.

Mrs. Reynolds was born January 23, 1945, in Summerville, GA, daughter of the late Aaron Gordon “Buddy” Dunn and Flosie Mae Ivy Dunn. Prior to her retirement, she was employed with Shaw Industries. Mrs. Reynolds was also an avid T.V. watcher.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jerry LeWayne Reynolds; sisters, Frances Cannon and Shelia Jones.

Survivors include her sons, Darryl Reynolds and Scott Reynolds; a sister, Gracie Potts; 6 grandchildren; and 5 great-grandchildren.

Memorial services for Mrs. Reynolds will be held at 1:00 P.M. Thursday, August 22, 2024, from the Mason Funeral Home Chapel Rev. Matthew Willingham officiating.

There will be a gathering of family and friends at Mason Funeral Home from 12:00 Noon until the hour of service on Thursday.

Jerry Wayne Jackson, Obit (M)

Mr. Jerry Wayne Jackson, age 75, of Trion, GA, died Saturday, August 17, 2024, at his residence.

Mr. Jackson was born November 3, 1948, in Trion, GA, son of the late Robert and Ocie Jones Burrage. He was a member of Life Purpose Church, and prior to his retirement, was employed with Mount Vernon Mills.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Winonina Lea Jackson; a son, John Jackson; and sisters, Fay Gann, Patricia Cooper, and Shirley Floyd.

Survivors include his wife, Brenda Gentry Jackson; sons and daughters-in-law, Paul (Debbie) Jackson, Michael Jackson, Mikey (Toni Dawn) Jones, Greg (Tera) Jones, Frankie (Chrissie) Jones, Robbie (Sonya) Jones, and Amanda Jackson; daughter and son-in-law, Shea (Ken) Czernik; brothers and sisters-in-law, Ronnie (Lou) Jackson; sisters and brothers-in-law, Judy Long, Glenda (Steve) Eden, Carole (Terry) Ramey, David Floyd; 17 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services for Mr. Jackson will be held at 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, August 20, 2024, from the Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Labron Long officiating. Interment will follow in Bankhead Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Billy Kines, Donny Jackson, Thomas Rinker, Dakota Jones, Greg Jones, and Travis Jackson. Honorary pallbearers will be his Life Purpose Church family.

Mr. Jackson will be in state at Mason Funeral Home and the family will receive friends from 12:00 Noon until the hour of service on Tuesday.

Eloise E. Norton, Obit (C)

Mrs. Eloise E. Norton, age 90 of Summerville, Georgia passed away Thursday, August 15, 2024 at her residence.

Eloise was born in DeKalb County, Alabama on February 28, 1934, daughter of the late James “Jim” Washington Thrasher and Elmer Julia Roden Thrasher. She was a member of the Four Mile Baptist Church and was retired from the Georgia Rug Mill (Mohawk) after nearly 30 years of service. Eloise spent her time as a young girl on the Daniel Lee McWhorter farm, where she learned many lifelong lessons. There she helped care for their two girls, Marie and Diane. The McWhorter family always held a special place in Eloise’s heart. Eloise married the love of her life, Sidney Norton on September 1, 1950. She and Sidney were married for 45 years and were blessed with four children; Janie, Cathie, Patti and Scott. Eloise was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother; and enjoyed being able to spend time outside working and tending to her flower beds. In addition to her parents, Eloise was preceded in death by her husband, Sidney Norton; daughter, Patricia Norton; sisters, Lena Rosser, Dorothy Clowdis and Doris Moore; a brother, Tommy Thrasher; and a son-in-law, Dewey Mann.

Eloise is survived by a son, Sidney Scott Norton; daughters and son-in-law, Janie Mann and Cathie and Dean Myers; grandchildren, Natalie(Steve) Faulkner; step grandchildren, Alicia(Josh) Klehm, Christy(Peter) Harms and Mark(Rachel) Myers; great grandchildren, Brylee Faulkner, Kinsely Faulkner, and Madison Klehm; step great grandchildren, Micah Harms, Tina Harms, Elizabeth Harms, Hannah Harms, James Myers, Lila Myers and Leah Myers.

Funeral Services for Eloise will be held Tuesday, August 20, 2024 at 2:00 P.M. in the Chapel of the Coffman Funeral Home with Rev. Joel Smith, her son, Scott Norton and her son-in-law, Dean Myers officiating. Interment will follow in the Summerville Cemetery with Rev. Sanford DeBerry officiating.

Pallbearers will be Josh Klehm, Steve Faulkner, Jr., Arlin Thrasher, Grant Norton, Gary Norton, Steve Rosser, Stan Rosser and Jackson Klehm.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday from 12:00 Noon until the funeral hour.

Mrs. Eloise’s family would like to thank Carolyn Ervin for her exceptional love, care and joy she provided their mother and grandmother over the last two years. Carolyn was truly a bright light in all of their lives. They also want to acknowledge Pam Helms for her care and compassion in the care of their mother.

Mrs. Jennie Lynn Rutledge Hennon, age 62, of Summerville, GA, died Thursday, August 15, 2024, at her residence.

Mrs. Hennon was born January 16, 1962, in Trion, GA, daughter of the late Albert Lee Rutledge and Pauline Frances Crisler Rutledge. She was a member of Pennville First Baptist Church, and prior to her retirement, was employed with Mount Vernon Mills. Mrs. Hennon loved spending time with her family and enjoyed being a caregiver.

Survivors include her husband, Jerry Hennon; sons, Zeke (Misty) Hennon, Jeremy (Marsha) Hennon; brothers, Mike (Eda) Rutledge, Alan (Virginia) Rutledge; sisters, Deborah (Robert) Williams, Kim (Dennis) Knight; grandchildren, Elizabeth Hennon, Caleb (Chera) Hennon, Emily (Austin) Brandon, Megan (Jonathan) Hilliard.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 P.M. Sunday, August 18, 2024, from the Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Sammy Barrett officiating. Interment will follow in West Hill Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Jeremy Hennon, Caleb Hennon, Brock Rutledge, Josh Rutledge, Cole Bishop, and Jay White.

Mrs. Hennon will be in state at Mason Funeral Home and the family will receive friends from 1:00 P.M. until the hour of service on Sunday.

Chattooga Defeats Lafayette 30-0. Trion vs Gordon Lee game postponed until Saturday Night

For this first time in 5 years, the Chattooga Indians football team starts the season 1-0 after an impressive 30-0 win over the Lafayette Ramblers. After multiple weather delays, the game was called near the end of the 3rd quarter. Chattooga will play Coahulla Creek next week at home and will be aiming to open the season 2-0 for the first time since 2015.

The Trion vs Gordon Lee game was called due to inclement weather and has been rescheduled for tomorrow night at 7pm. All tickets purchased for the game on Friday will be honored at the gate on Saturday night with a proof of purchase.
