The Pond Spring AME Zion Church will be presenting a Women’s Day Celebration on Sunday May 19th at 3pm. There will not be an 11am service that day. Lunch will be served at 2pm. The guest speaker will be Minister Britney Zanders. The Reverend Jonathan Moore, pastor, and the congregation invite the public to attend. Ms. Farris Christine Hix, age 85, of Summerville, GA, died Saturday, May 11, 2024, at Atrium Health Floyd.
Ms. Hix was born December 10, 1938, in Summerville, GA, daughter of the late James Lewis Hix and Gracie Madeline Smith Hix. She was a member of Four Mile Baptist Church, and prior to her retirement, was employed as a Registered Nurse with the Veterans Administration. Ms. Hix was also a veteran of the United States Army.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister and brother-in-law, Mary and Ed Davis.
Survivors include her brother and sister-in-law, Jimmy and Linda Wooten Hix; sister and brother-in-law, Ella and James “Jimmy” Taylor; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Ms. Hix will be held at 2:00 P.M. Monday, May 13, 2024, from the Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Joel Smith and Rev. Larry Scoggins officiating. Private interment will be held in the Hix Family Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Ken Reynolds, James Evans, Rickey Duke, Ryan Gravely, Dana LeGuin, and Richard Wright.
Ms. Hix will be in state at Mason Funeral Home and the family will receive friends from 1:00 P.M. until the hour of service on Monday.
In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests donations be made to the Four Mile Baptist Church Building Fund.

Mr. Michael Wayne Wright, Sr. age 67, of Summerville, GA, died Friday, May 10, 2024, at Advent Health Redmond.
Mr. Wright was born March 5, 1957, in Rome, GA, son of the late Forrest Elsworth Wright and Ada Elizabeth Salmon Wright. He was Baptist by faith, and prior to his retirement, was employed as an over-the-road truck driver with Seven Hills Trucking.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Janice K. Wright; and a brother, David Larry Wright.
Survivors include his sons, Michael Wright, Jr., David Allen (April) Wright; daughter, April (Johnny) Thompson; brother, Robert Lee (Sonya) Wright; 8 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; and his girlfriend, Beverly Lawless.
Graveside and interment services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, May 11, 2024, at Summerville Cemetery with Bro. Lloyd Gilreath officiating. Pallbearers will be Gary Wright, Terry Wright, Steve Wright, Kenneth Wright, Billy Wright, and Todd Wright.
Mr. Wright will be in state at Mason Funeral Home and the family will receive friends from 12:00 Noon until 1:30 P.M. on Saturday.

Harrisburg Church of the Nazarene, located at 2337 Harrisburg Road in Summerville, will be celebrating Homecoming Sunday June 2nd at 10am.
