Trion Defeats St Francis 49-0 To Move On To 2nd Round

The Trion Bulldogs had no problems with the visiting Saint Francis Knights from Alpharetta.  The Dawgs built a 35-0 lead after the 1st quarter and never looked back.  The final score was 49-0 and Trion advances to the 2nd round of the GHSA playoffs.  Trion will face off against the Elbert County Blue Devils who defeated the Oglethorpe County Patriots 34-27.

Trion Football on WZQZ Tonight!

The Trion Bulldogs will begin their playoff run tonight at home against the visiting Saint Francis Knights.  The undefeated Bulldogs sit at 10-0 on the season and were crowned region champions last week for the first time in 20 years thanks to their 42-14 win over Darlington.  Trion finished the regular season undefeated at 10-0 which is the first time that has been don in Trion since 1974 when the Bulldogs last won the state championship.  Trion is also ranked #2 in the state according to the AJC.

The Bulldogs will be facing a familiar opponent tonight in the first round of the playoffs.  Saint Francis, out of Region 6-A, eliminated the Bulldogs from the playoffs last year in the second round 34-20.  The game last year was at Saint Francis and is a game that the Bulldog faithful remember all too well.

This year, Saint Francis is 1-7 on the season and finished 4th in Region 6-A, a region that only had 4 teams and all of them, including Saint Francis, made the playoffs.  The Knights lone win on the year came against Landmark Christian way back in week 2 of the season.  Saint Francis lost to Mount Vernon last week 57-26 to close out the regular season.

As previously reported earlier this week, due to GHSA rules, WZQZ will not be able to video stream tonight’s game.  The game will be carried live on the radio on 99.1 FM and AM 1180.  WZQZ will be streaming audio (no video) of the game on the WZQZ Facebook page so fans from out of town will still be able to listen to the game.  The game will be video streamed live on the NFHS network but there is a fee that must be paid to view the stream.

Join WZQZ’s Ben Groce and Jeremy Burke for the pregame show beginning at 7pm with kickoff to follow at 7:30pm.
