Blood Drive At Waterville Baptist Church December 13th

There will be a Blood Assurance blood drive at the Waterville Baptist Church in Trion on Saturday December the 13th from 11am until 4 pm.  All donors will receive a free pair of socks.  Waterville Baptist Church is located 11815 GA 151 in Trion.

Veleta S. Brown, Obit (ER)

MRS. VELETA SUE BROWN, age 74, of Jenkins Gap Road, Summerville, Georgia, passed away Sunday morning, December 7, 2025, at Her residence. Born in Trion, Georgia on August 12, 1951, She was a daughter of the late Hugh and Christine Atkins Leath. Veleta is a member of The United by Faith Church and rertired from the assembly department of Roper Corporation. In addition to Parents She is preceded in death by a brother-in-law the late Dock Hardin.

Surviving are Her husband, Rev. Barry Brown; daughters, April (Todd) Browning and Jessica (Matt) Smith; grandchildren, William (Heather) Lamb, Ricky Lamb (Kaitlyn Alexander), Ansley Brown, Bailey Evans, Emma Evans, Leland Smith; Nine Great Grandchildren; sisters, Anita Hardin, Rita (David) Bierkamp, Reva (Gary) Knowles; several Nieces and Nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, December 10th, at 3:00 P.M. from United By Faith Church with Rev. John McGraw and Rev. Sanford Deberry officiating, interment in West Hill Cemetery. Active Pallbearers Gene Cavin, Darrell Huskey, Jack Beason, Tommy Middleton, Jay Young, Tony Prince; Honorary Pallbearers Ladies Sunday School Class of United By Faith, Dr. Frank Hampton, Cristy Cavin, and Nurses of Heyman Hospice.

Visitation will be Tuesday from 6 until 8 P.M. at the Funeral Home.

Douglas Spain, Obit (ER)

Douglas Norton Spain, a loving husband, father and Papa, age 85, of Subligna, Georgia, passed away on Saturday, December 6, 2025. Doug, as he was known, was born on October 12th, 1940, in Trion, Georgia, to the late Jimmie and Gertrude Louise Norton Spain. Doug retired from Roper Corporation in 2002 after 30 years of service and was currently employed with Chattooga County Public Works. Doug had many interests including woodworking and was an avid fan of vintage cars. He was a former member of the North Georgia Cruisers and was also a founding member of Horizon Baptist Fellowship, where he would greet you with a warm smile and ensure that you did not forget your bulletin. He was preceded in death by his sisters, Virginia Spain Bullard; Phyllis Spain; and niece, Deborah Bullard Jennings.

Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Allene Jennings Spain; his children, Amelia Spain Blackmon, Carol Spain, Adam Spain, and Crystal Spain (Bud Raburn). Grandchildren: Blake Maney (Emily), Carrington Maney (Tyler Free), Piper Maney, and Zeke Spain; several nieces and nephews also survive.

The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, December 10th at 11am from Earle Rainwater Funeral Home with Rev. Kenneth Jennings and Dr. Dalen Jackson officiating followed by interment at Subligna Cemetery. Active Pallbearers will be Ken Jennings, Stephen Jennings, David Fletcher Sr., David Fletcher Jr., Carey Maney, and Dennis Bullard. Honorary Pallbearers will be Larry Norton, Steve Bullard, David King and the members of Horizon Baptist Fellowship.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, December 9, 2025 from 5pm until 7pm at Earle Rainwater Funeral Home. The family extends their appreciation to the Chattooga County 911 staff, the staff at Atrium Health Floyd Chattooga Emergency Department, the Subligna Volunteer Fire Department, and special friends Jeremy and Lauren Mitchell.

Calvary Baptist Church Annual Youth Christmas Play Sunday December 14th

You are invited to join Calvary Baptist Church for the annual Youth Christmas Play on Sun., Dec. 14th at 11 am. “Christmas at Bethlehem Gulch” is an old western Christmas musical about the coming of the Savior. The church is located at 171 Taylor St. in Summerville.

Shelia Diane Nixon, Obit (M)

Mrs. Shelia Diane Nixon, age 71, of Summerville, GA, died Thursday, December 4, 2025, at Advent Health Redmond.

Mrs. Nixon was born February 8, 1954, in Trion, GA, daughter of the late Orbarn Reed Goodridge and Frances Oneida Bailey Goodridge. She was Baptist by faith, and prior to her retirement, was employed in retail sales.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by sons, Stacy Nixon and David Lamar Mason; sister, Glenda Bennett; brother, Danny Goodridge; and daughter-in-law, Beth Nixon.

Survivors include her husband, Bobby Nixon; sons, Chris Nixon, Daniel (Susie) Nixon; brother, Steve Goodridge; nephew, James (Sean) Curran, Jr.; grandsons, Austin Money, Matt Nixon, Lucas Nixon, Dillion Nixon, and Gracie Nixon; her sisters by choice, Joy Greer and Mary Henderson; and her dear friend, Sarah Ruth Thompson.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Monday, December 8, 2025, from the Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Kevin J. Norton, Rev. Steve Burns, Rev. Matthew Willingham, and Rev. Gene Greer officiating. Interment will follow in Summerville Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Brian Flippo, Kenneth Adams, Lucas Nixon, Austin Money, Dillion Nixon, Justin Blackmon, and Olin Woody, & Matt Nixon. Honorary pallbearers will be Gracie Nixon, Billy Blackmon, Jr., Tony Cook, James Curran, Jr., and Sean Curran.

Mrs. Nixon will be in state at Mason Funeral Home and the family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M. Sunday, December 7, 2025.
